if you are thinking about getting your lev in this country dont go to thomas cook as they are only giving 2.41 lev to the £.
best rate i have found is 2.62 from lunn poly

No need to be sorry Steve, it's good advice to many.


I would still advise people to take minimal Levs to Bulgaria and instead take Sterling. You should get at least 2.7 to the £ in the resorts.

Euros will be widely accepted, but they do not command the same exchange rate as Sterling. Travellers cheques also receive a poorer exchange rate than Sterling.
TAKE STERLING. (Not Scottish notes as these are not accepted in Bulgaria)

On this point i recently checked on rates for currency in Bulgaria (Bank rates are slightly different to those at exchange buerughs..)
So everything Pamporovo pete said about currency is spot on. Taking anything other than Pounds Sterling will make your holiday more expensive. Have a look..

British Pounds: £1 = 2.94 Leva
USD : $1 = 1.37 Leva
Euro : Eu1 = 1.94Leva

Also, remember that sterling notes must be in near pristine condition, ones which are torn or written on will not be acepted by Bulgarian banks

Hey all,

so nothing changed the Euro is fixed with 1,95583 Lev 1 Euro, the Dollar is weakest as several years and the pound is nearby the same currency we know, so take Pound or euro. Do not change any money in Dollar. And do not try pay in Bulgaria with foreign money.

Hi Folks

Same goes for Bank of Ireland notes - don't take them. Only Bank of England notes, in good condition, not torn or defaced will be accepted.
