We're staying in Pamps for a week, arriving on 23rd Jan. We're self catering in Snezhanka and although we're going to go out to the nearby restaurants occasionally, we'd like to cook ourselves as well and eat breakfast in the apartment before skiing.
last year we found the resort supermarkets quite pricey - Does know if there is a nearby supermarket that we can stop off at and pick up some food for a reasonable price?
There is a new supermarket opened in Smolyan ,just down the road from Pamporovo.Only been opened a few months and doing well so i heard. Also if you are driving yourselves to Pamps you now pass a Metro supermarket as you skirt Plovdiv .Its on your left and cannot be missed.
The Metro is a cash and carry which you need a card / membership (Simular to Makro in the UK). I have used it once on my last trip without, the people on the check out add it to their account / card. We did however sneak in as the lady on reception was on the phone and waved us through.
I am told if you show your passport they will let you in, but you may be asked to fill in forms etc.
It is very good, but is more a bulk buying supemarket.
Nigel, do you know the name of new ...

Emma, ask your tranfer driver if u can stop at the metro on the way and stock up there. U can get the basics like eggs milk etc in pamps but certainly get your meat from metro. We took packs of frozen bacon in with our ski equipment, it was still frozen when we arrived.
The supermarket in Smolyan is Billa. There are also various shops in Chepelare where you could stock up on your way through. The largest food shop is down on the main square.
Stopping off in Chepelare as you drive through would be a really easy option, and they have a small but good supermarket for stocking up on milk, drinks and breakfast things at much cheaper prices - we've noticed that the milk, juice etc, is about half the price of Alaska's! The new Billa in Smolyan is Fab, we went at Christmas and managed to get everything we needed for a 2 week break, and very reasonable! They have a good deli counter, bakery and fresh fruit n veggies. Defo worth taking an hour out at the start of your hols to stock up for the week, it will save you a fortune
Billa is on the main road in Smolyan - head down to the large church and the court buildings and its on your right about 50 metres before the large church. Sorry I can't remember the church name
Its exactly as Helen says, and as you're driving down the main road you can't miss the giant yellow shopping bag (with Billa emblazoned across it), on the right hand side of the road. There is a small car park right next to it, which they were working on at Christmas, all being well thats finished now.
