thinking of a weekend in Bansko - should I???

Hi
I feel like having a trip up to Bansko (we are in Greece) for a weekend in early Oct (or even next weekend 11th/12th sept) - just me and hubby - I realise it will probably be raining but I'd still like to go and see Bansko before the ski season starts. I presume there is a all yr community there as it seemed quite self-sufficient when we were last there in Jan. I want to try a few of the back street 'mehanas' that I sussed out but didn't go because of the kids - we ended up at The ...

What are your opinions?

Trying to persuade hubby that I'm sane and this idea is not crazy - strange how he thinks nothing of making the 5hr car journey to Athens - even for just a day ..... but 6hrs to Bansko has him wondering about my sanity!
I would also like to visit the Bear sanctuary BUT have been told the road is not suitable for a normal car and a 4 wheel drive is needed.

The road to the bear park is rough, but you will find some local to do it (we won't). With extreame care you could do it in your own car, and go to the bottom entrance...
Bansko now really quiet, but still nice... Many restaurants still open, weather fine...a real laid back time of year... and the beers still cheap Very Happy

Just want to sit in a real mehana - one that's not incredibly busy like in winter. They were just wayyyy too busy to have a good time and Booze
Also I am thinking of staying at the Eagle's Nest which is next door to the Irish pub - 'nuff said!

I know - but the forecast for the weekend is rain there and here in Greece! Is The Victoria open? If we arrive about 10pm (yep still want to come) will we still be able to find somewhere to eat - as it'll be dark and I really do not know which mehana is good.At least I know where the Irish bar is - next to the apt I want to rent in Eagle's Nest!

Victoria is open. Mehana's try Baryakova just after church going down Pirin Street. As you come round church do not take first right along wall of church take next right and it is on the left. If you look up you will see Baryakova sign lit up. Very good meals. Reasonable prices too. We still not had rain forecast for weekend here but who knows??
