I am about to start looking for our travel insurance, do any of you know of any good deals at the minute or can anyone recommend a decent provider? We only want single trip winter sports cover.
Thanks a lot
Erin - the E111 has now been replaced with EHIC but that isn't valid in Bulgaria. There is an arrangement between the UK and Bulgaria which entitles Brits to free medical treatment. Have a look here http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthadvicefortravellers/Gettingtreatmentaroundtheworld/Otherreciprocalagreements/jumplinksonly/DH_4114808
We did Bulgaria in the summer and you do need insurance and from our experience they want cash at the time. We had expected that the insurance company would deal with it all, but certainly where we were (it may differ from place to place) they wanted paying and did not accept cards. It was a midnight beetle in the ear emergency ( yes- just as bad as it sounds!) and they did let us go and pay the following day. The service was fantastic though.

Pam - in the Balkan Holidays Brochure they do state that they medical centres could need paying for medical expenses there and then (would have hoped they would accept credit cards though!).
Although my experience is that this is very much the norm these days and you request the money back when you return home.
My hubby injured his knee last year in Pamps. We went to med centre in Snezhanka and were charged an extortionate amount for a steroid injection and knee support. We had to pay (they even drove us back to our hotel so we could get the cash, although they said they would have accepted a credit card).
We claimed it back from our insurance company when we got back to the uk.
