for your first time, if you are hiring boots liklihood is they will not fit like a glove, so to be honest you are probably going to find most socks do not do the business and need to possibly wear a couple of pairs - only advice I can give is for my first time I bought cheap socks then bought my own boots and got some decent socks - so I wish I had not wasted money on the cheaper ones in the first place as I gave them away the following year.
Guys in snow and rock reckon you can even wear ...

Guys in snow and rock reckon you can even wear cotton socks or even womens pop socks if the boots are a great fit.... not tried either yet so cannot comment -mind you this is coming for someone who has a size and a half difference in foot size so maybe you should ignore my advice ....!!!!
You should pay out for at least one decent pair of socks. X-socks do a line called 'ski carving' silver' and they are the best I have worn. They're quite expensive but totally comfy and responsive. I usually end up wearing them all week (smelly boots though'. Even the swiss Army use them!
will try them been buying Felke but will have a go with those, going to also brave wearing pop socks, but I will be taking a spare pair of socks out with me that day - just in case
To be honest i dont ski i ride a board and have soft boots, having said that i bought tube socks one year and they are erm poo, so buy propper tech socks that fit correctly it might help, with padding in the right places,
have problem with ski socks also.daughter of 10yrs size 4.5 shoe. kids socks finish at 3 has to have adult ones but much to big on feet or long over knees
