I am also going on the 1st. Went last yr same time and it was fine up top.. bit slushy down the bottom towards the end of the week but did not cause us any problems
thanks for the posts
we went to bansko same time last year and again panicked before we got there as weather was warming up still managed to get plenty in at the top
I was there from the 19th jan one day the thermometer on the rila hotel showed 17 degrees in the sun at 2pm one afternoon, still plenty of snow round all week dont know what the actual temp was in the shade though.
and umforchanatly to tell you the truth it is beginin to get really slushy and patchy on the bottom on the rila mountain. all of the snow and ice has melted on the main high street whihc is not good. at the start of my week i was wairing thermals jumper and my ski jacket and we very cold. by the end of the week you could have gone up in a jumper and not been cold. but i hope that the snow holds out for you.
The Rila side I imagine is wrecked. Yastrebets has now a lot of patches and people are downloading from the middle gondola. However, the top is spankingly good, just getting a little cut up from so many people using it. Big queues, but that's another story (rant).
Just back, asked our instructor Nick ( who was fantastic) he said that the snow up top will be good until April becasue it is so deep, he then told me that the very low railing I was leaning my ski against was his chest height in April. That is how deep the snow is so worry not. the skiing and views up top were to die for!
