Just a quick one... apparently temps are dropping to about -10 on saturday. I dont know how much truth there is in this but can anybody tell me what impact Ice has on skiing conditions. I have read a few posts stating that runs have been closed becuase of this?
when in pamps last week ice formed this normaly only happens after rain then low temps.
after two days the piste management grated the ice (just like cheese) and created soft flake type snow which was good for skiing.
But they were slow to do this shouls have done it day1
Ice is dangerous
it depends on your level of skiing, i wont ski a black that is ice but happy with reds and blues my hubby who is realy experienced would ski blacks. Only ski what you feel comfortable with and try and relax ice makes it harder to stop, skis will not dig in as they do on snow. Take care.
Unless it's very very cold or the slopes are considered very dangerous because of ice, they will not be closed purely because of temps. I've skied in -20º before. It's just a case of wrap up very warm! Lift passes are not affected by temps.
Air temps and ground temps vary greatly, the base snow has an insulating effect that can keep the snow temps higher in very cold conditions... great example was the olympics where it displayed air and snow temps before races... Of course the reverse is true when there are warmer air temps, the ground temps are lower... Clever really innit ??
