So nearby anybody in the villages in Bulgaria have a small destille, you can get some home made rakia in some of the bars in restaurants in Borovetz so I think the same will be in Pamporovo and either in Bansko.
And the branded Rakia are not only worse they have some really good one, much better as some italian grappa or french eau de vie.
Hi Sune
Do they in BG put the rakia in the freezer, obviously it is not going to freeze because of the alcohol but it does make drinking it a lot easier especially if
it is really rough, straight down...
I personally like the better stuff, long with water...
What would you say was one of the best i could get in BG ???
No Rakia is from fridge or room temperature, now in the winter int he mountains it is even served hot as Graina Rakia, yummie.
I prefer these from Peshtere but not the simple ones. There is one special Muskatova Rakia in a long blue bottle a hlaf litre is around 13 lev(good price) and another one aged and bottled in small eatren pots, the best stuff I konw (14lev).
Even good id these from Khan Krum aged three years in oak casks.
Don't forget Slivenska Perla, and these from Slaviantzi ...

Be careful with these from Damiantza Melnishka Rakia the strongest one 50%.
But try out.

P.S. The hot Rakia is the best way to came back to live after a cold day in the mountains or on the slopes...

Hi Sune
Such a comprehensive reply, i have pasted and printed it for future referance. Thank you my friend, it occurs to me that you are not from the UK only because of your not so perfect grammar, if this is not the case i apoligise, if it is then where are you ???
Hi again Sune...
I hope i have not insulted you with the referance ` not so perfect grammar' . It was never my intention and perhaps i should have chosen my words better..
Please come back as to have a differant perspective for this board is a good thing especially someone who has good experience and advice of Bulgaria...
Steve you haven't insulted me, but here in germany it is a hour later as in the UK. And I had to work next day, so I went to bed.
Normally it is knowed that I'm german, living in Berlin. And that my english isn't perfect oxford english is really true.
I can tell you nearly aéverything about bulgarian wine and spirits...thats my hobby.
Where you go or was in Bulgaria, these winter??
