Hi All,
Anybody got any news of potential developments in Borovets for the 2010 season. Last year/early this year saw the new chair and the snow cannon developments which was a big step forward.
Are they still building the Gondola from Samokov that they started last year and is there any news/sign or talk of the lift/piste developments attached to the Super Borovets Development.
Also are there any new hotels, chalets, facilities or apartments popping up for the forthcoming season ...

Hopefully someone on the ground locally can bring some news.
the gondola construction from samokov has stopped... dont think there will be anything new this season. i guess the only thing different will be the lake for the snow cannons.. i guess they have finished that now??
They had it finished last season but too late to fill it - so hopefully it'll be up and running this year. The gondola was always a dream and they only built the foundations to convince people that it was 'under way' so they could flog a few more apartments.
oh so cynical!, the lake wasnt completed in time last year, they were still pouring/spraying concrete in November, usual thing behind times!, but all ready to go this year.
Guess the economic downturns biting everywhere, businesses will suffer again this year as the numbers will be well down!!
Borovets? Its a ski resort, so nothing and no-one - a few hotels and restaurants for the local weekend trade but there is no reason to go to Borovets out of the ski season
Yes Mat I know it's a ski resort. I wanted to know how many people went there in summer for hiking, walking or mountain biking. There are definately better places for that sort of stuff in the Alps and elsewhere, still though it's a question I'm curious about.
I was there 2 weekends ago and it was busy. Nothing like as busy as the ski season but you would expect that. On the Friday night we couldn't get a table in any of the decent restaurants. There are loads of walking and hiking options but they do not make the most of the mountain biking. You do see people taking their bikes up on the gondola but they just follow the walking paths rather than having dedicated biking trails. It is mostly Bulgarians that visit in the summer for walking or just to get away from the heat in Sofia. You see some international tourists but not many as the resort is not really marketed in the summer. It is a bit shortsighted by Borosport as there is alot to do in the summer in terms of walk or biking but they don't seem to be interested in it.

re: New Lifts/Pistes for Borovets 2009/2010
The gondola and Sitnyakovo chair lift are working. From the gondola it gives a head start up to the top of Musula or to the hut for a beer. The walk back down the musula path to Borovets is worth doing.
I walked down the ski road from the top of the Sitnyakovo chair lift last week with my grandchildren aged 3 and 6 and they loved it.
'The walk back down the musula path to Borovets is worth doing.'
Even skiing taking time to stop for the views can take a good 30 minutes. Walking must take ages which is partly the point I suppose. I wouldn't like the slighty uphill parts, give me a quad or mountain bike.
