Vitosha is the ski resort nearest to Sofia, about 30-45 minutes from the centre, in the mountains surrounding the city. Smaller than Boro and Bansko and mainly used by residents of the capital, you can see it if the plane circles before landing. Never skied there but people say it's worth a day trip if the snow is good.
They'll only build the second gondola if the market improves to put 1000 apartments around it for ski in/ski out. Vistosha needs to be improved as part of the eventual Olympics bid. Can be OK, but its very windy at the top
There is definately no need to build additional apartments, with the present density of nearly 17,000 additonal beds over what existed not including hotels, and the existing local visitors Bansko cannot ever be more than 30% full, if the existing queues at the busiest times are an indicator...
If the existing accomadation is to be even 50% utilised then the uplift capacity would never cope as it is, the installation of an additional gondola would simply move the queues up the mountain, so ...

just back from bansko, have been informed by a reliable source that the second gondola is only a plan, that in no way will ulen get the return for their investment so the gondola is to remain a plan
I just hope that all future building applications are turned down in bansko and all current developments get finished.
Seems ridiculous how this country goes about business. They should just tidy everything up and wait and see if trade improves. Does anyone see a bright future for this place? - I am not so sure, however perhaps its part to do with the credit crunch.
