re: A Week in Borovets

I see it like this.

Someone did not enjoy their holiday in Bulgaria. That's a great shame........ but it happens.

A camera was stolen, by whom we don't know, so it could just as well have been a tourist that took it. (Anyone feel the need to guess how many thiefts there are in our country in a day?)

Yes there is a Mafia element in Bulgaria, there is no denying that, but it is very underground and not in your face so to speak. A few years ago I spent an evening with four Mafia guys, quite by mistake. I was with a Bulgarian friend and he knew them and we ended up drinking together. Not the sort of people I would want to spend many evenings with, but still I was treated with respect and we got on fine.

It will be slow process before the country is a fully democratic society, but by god they are trying really hard.

As for people hurting themselves on chairlifts, that happens in ever ski resort, every day throughout the skiing world, and if 99% of people do not get hurt then I'm sorry but it must be down to user error. And if you are quoted price for something that is more than you wish to pay, then my answer is very clear, don't do it!

As for postings on this site, I monitor it every day, and thankfully 99% of you use it just as it was intended. For information and fun plus sharing experiences.

I only delete posting for the following reasons.

Vile Language
Lies
Abuse
Insulting Anybody Directly
Unpaid Advertising
Racist Comments
Misleading Posts

I only ban posters if the warnings are not heeded and this is very rare. But once banned there is no way back and that particular computer will never be able to gain access to the site again.

I have never, nor will I ever delete a posting because it does not echo or reflect my opinions. Neither do I think Bulgaria is perfect. But I do believe it offers fun and laughter for all who seek it, and that'll do for me.

Cool

re: A Week in Borovets

I have just returned from borovets and it did not live up to what i was expecting.
I was taking snow board lessons and got my board from the ski depot oppsite the Rila hotel as did the other members of my class. None of the class's boards had been set for them (Regular/Goofy). The snowboard teacher told us that it should have been done when they where fitted. Four of us also had problems with bindings that did not tighten correctly. One of the group went back to the shop three times in one day, every time the shop said it had fixed the binding he would go out to the slope and they would come loose again. Admittedly us learnes do not know what is right or wrong with this equipment, but that is why there should be competent staff that are willing to help.
The Chairlift Rila 1 was quite brutal especially the dismount. I saw one person dragged beneath it by thier boots and get hit on the head. a boarder hit in the side and knocked to the ground as the chair swung around. Plus a number of people getting clipped by the chair and falling after they had dismounted. I thought the resort was selling that they are learner friendly. Yes i did go up the other chair and it was a lot more friendly.
A friend of mine learning to ski was "ripped off" by one of the skidoo taxis at the top of the mountain. He took a wrong turn down a blue run before he was ready. the Taxi charged him 60lev to get back to the top so he could get to the gondola( less than 2 minute ride). As metioned earlier if its more than you are willing to pay don't do it. But if you are stuck, it dose leave a bad taste in your mouth if someone takes advantage of you. Also what was with the Gondola and having to go up that huge slope just to get back down the mountain, why was there no draglift. Only Skidoo taxi, which you had to pay for, after buying a lift pass.
On the Saturday there was a Slalom race, and for some reason the gentle blue slope down to the green was from the Rila Chair was closed. this did not make any sense as not everyone wants to go down steep reds and blacks, especialy learners who can only snow plough. I just lifted the fence and carried on the easy runs, as the green run was still open from the other chair.
I did have a good time on holiday but it was due to my friends and learning to snowboard not the resort. Next year I would rather go somewhere that treats the customers better, even if it costs a few hundred pounds more

dear bomber B Cup
you go off to Canada, France and the like, I think you are more suited to there earning as you do, and being able to afford the likes.
when your married, with kids, and perhaps dont earn as much as you do, then you may appreciate why so many return to Bulgaria with their families.

I have done most of the major ski resorts worldwide during my younger days, i unfortunatley left Bulgaria out, as it was in my oppinion what earlier posts thought, rather primitive and undeveloped. I also had plenty of cash and was being paid to ski the major resorts and be noticed.
I only visited bulgaria last year and found the place totally charming, and cheap! (now having the kids etc etc).
I have since been four times and have no problems at all, and looking forward to next year.
We all can criticise, and constructive criticism is welcomed i suppose, but get of your high horse and go to your chums at Courcheval or wherever if your posts are so self egosistical.
I took a group of 49 skiing Three year ago. Unfortunatley there were a number of break ins at the hotel we stayed at(all in one night), in the resort centre. A number of cameras were stolen along with cash and personal belongings.
We were also over charged allmost every restuarant we visited as a group, and a number of the guests complained that the drinks were "watered down".
There was two fights witnessed during our time around the bars, and the locals pestered the girls in the group, thinking because they are on holiday, they were obviously up for it. It was a one off bad holiday, but guess where we were?
AVIEMORE(Scotland).
* happens all over im afraid!

re: A Week in Borovets

hi, i had a terrible time in Borovets 2 years ago when we were taken by our instructor Krassi to another resort for money! I ended up breaking my leg we were in very deep snow, we were on a learn to ski package!
He wanted money for the minibus before i had medical treatment , we will stick to Austria where instructors do risk assesments in the morning

re: A Week in Borovets

hi all,
first a little reaction to Becs: Im sorry that everything that could be wrong, did went wrong.. I never experienced such behaviour from the true bulgarians before so can't help/advice/.. on this matter.

Now, for the x-time and for always: I'm from Belgium so maybe I can clear things up that I'm not from Bulgariaski or (worse?) a wife from the bulgarian mafia(!).. Wink I discovered this site some 3 years ago and this was also the start of my 'info-BG-search'. Notting more or less ...

I only post some informative articles from the online BG gazettes and the latest weather..and my crazy ideas & comments Cool Ahum. hihihi
So why people think that I'm from Bulgaria or a member from bulgariaski is beyond me! it's BE, not BG Razz

The difference between BG and Austria???
if you want to have a marathonski from 9 to 5 then go to Austria, but if you want to funski for 3hrs, enjoy the aprèsski, and taking the small things in life: it's Bulgaria!
That's my opinion folks.
