A question of clothing?

Hello again

I am skiing for the first time in January in Borovets. I just need to ask a few q's about clothing. I don't actually own anything that I can ski in so was wondering:
Question Shall I buy any old outfit (ie. Aldi have offers on today for about £40) or shall I splurge £200 on the fabulous one I've seen in the Roxy shop? I'm pretty sure I'll pick up skiing quite easily (it looks fairly easy anyway!) so I plan to make it a regular thing.

Question Is everybody else in designer stuff on the piste or are people not that bothered?
Question What do people wear at night? I assume I'd be stupid to bring heels with me!
Really sorry to be asking questions that 1000's others have probably asked before me but I have never been anywhere like this before! Your answers will be greatly appeciated!

Thanks

re: A question of clothing?

Designer gear in Bulgaria ha think not. Bit tricky Luce if you are convinced that you will love skiing an plan to go lots more then yes a more expensive Jacket will pay dividends. But I think £200 is a bit much unless you are loaded!!!

As for for what to wear in the evening whatever makes you comfortable, but I would suggset heels might be a touch lethal / silly walking in snow and ice at night as would a micro skirt and boob tube!!! Wink

re: A question of clothing?

Hi Luce,

the gear i've got is mid range stuff, i paid £70 for my pants and my first jacket (roxy) i paid about £110, i've since bought a new jacket (northface) when we were in Canada earlier this year, which was more money but really good quality! Personally i wouldn't buy another Roxy jacket because i don't think the quality is that great but for a first timer it would be fine..

As for night time, i take a couple of pairs of jeans, some nice tops, tshirts and my Cat boots which i wear everywhere, i've never taken heels on a skiing holiday! the hotels and restaurants tend to be warm inside so you don't need to take big wooly jumpers, lightweight fleeces are perfect.

hope this helps a bit Very Happy

re: A question of clothing?

Yeah, for first time get a cheap jacket - shop around though it doesnt have to cost a fortune. I got a decent jacket from Trespass in the Trespass shop (funnily enough) in the Milton keynes snowdome. Was on sale - only about £50.

As for night clothing, a decent pair of shoes and a coat and gloves get you from one place(bar) to another, you can still wear a boob tube or any other skimpy outfit for the clubs/bars, and even jeans instead of a skirt if you must - though make sure they are ...

re: A question of clothing?

Aldi suits are fine we bought one last year and had no problems, always think its a waste spending a fortune on clothes in case you dont take to the sking. Mind you Luce you would have to be mad not to fall in love with Bulgaria. Best of Luck

re: A question of clothing?

Why not try Ebay, you can get some great "new" gear including labels for a lot less than the shops.

re: A question of clothing?

Head to Decathlon, good, cheap, functional kit. No-one is in designer gear in Bulgaria.

re: A question of clothing?

I'd recommend tkmaxx if you want designer stuff cheap,i found myself a dc jacket for £49.99 (last season would have been more like £170).

As for evening wear, again i'm going to reccomend tkmaxx for some cheap walking boots, get some cheap ski tube socks aswell for in the evening. Furthermore get a jacket or trousers that has zip up packets(if you like drinking, you'll understand)
