Well as you know, my knowledge of Skiing in Bulgaria is limited to Pamporovo.

With regards to resturants, there are many places outside of your hotel accomodation that you can eat. Those on a budget and have pre-paid meals will be well catered for. There is always plenty of meat, usually chicken or pork, as well as fresh fruit, salads, and some delightful desserts. Even chips will be served on a regular basis to keep the small skier happy. Food is rarely pipeing hot in Bulgarian hotels, but that is their style. A wine waiter will serve you at your table and you can order all types of drinks from him. If you do not finish a full bottle of wine it will be corked and presented to you again the following evening.
Breakfasts consist of eggs, fried, bolied or scrambled usually, toast with preserve, hams and cheeses, and plenty of fruit jucies and hot beverages. Bacon can be rare but is available in some hotels. If you prefer a big hearty English breakfast including bacon, the White Hart will cater for that and charge you about 3 quid for a huge helping, plus bottomless coffee pot.
Eating out in the evening is a pleasure and is very cheap compared to the UK. A family of 4 would expect to pay about 24 pounds for a full 3 coarse meal including drinks. You can get anything from a Pizza to a T-Bone steak and from a Chinese to a full Sunday roast. A large T-Bone in the White Hart with all the trimmings will cost 5 pounds.
For a special night out, try the Taverna to the left and downstairs from the Perelik dining room. Here you will get entertainment, as well as a huge menu catering for all tastes.Again extremely cheap and excellent quality.
Snacks are available pretty much 24-7 in places like the cafe opposite the Perelik swimming pool. There is also a cafe on the very top floor of the Morgavets where the views are stunning and is open to non-residence.
Food on the slopes are amazing, and probably hotter than in the hotels. Freshly roasted 1/2 Chicken with Chips, Kebabs, Karvama Stew, Shopska Salads, Pork Chops, all of these plus loads of other choices are available for a reasonable charge and service is generally (but not always) quite quick.
As anywhere else, tipping is at your own discression but the catering staff do work very hard for a small amount. You will find that once you eaten somewhere once and you return again you will almost certainly be recognised and treated as someone extra special.
Almost all menus have a section in English, accompanied by pictures of what is on offer. Prices are shown in Levs.
You will not go hungry in Bulgaria thats for sure, and some of their traditional cooking is superb.
Tim,
Some good answers already posted. Food is not really necessary to take onto the slopes as you are never more than 2 minutes from a cafe or bar. Ski school do all start at the Malina Ski Depot, and it is the responsibility of all instructors to ensure that their entire group is at the base at the end of ski school. This is usually about 3.30pm. After which you have a further 1 1/2 hours to free ski or do what you please.

Rie, I would be pretty sure that the soft toilet rolls will flush much better than the rough ones, however you still have the bins is required. More concerned about my little botty.
Not sure about the 'if you don't finish the bottle of wine they will cork it and present it to you the following day'.
...don't think I've ever been to a restaurant and not polished off the bottle

Good stuff, keep it flowing!

Another Question - for those who are doing the learn to snowboard / ski lessons. As in my case I have 6x2hr lessons booked, does it mean we turn up early morning, get our equipment, have a 2 hour lesson and then we are free to go down the slopes for the rest of the day or is it usually 1 hr morning and 1 hr afternoon and does the instructor stay on the slopes overseeing everyone?
My mates where in the school and i could never find them as they where out all day with the instructor they had lunch together and stayed together untill 4 ish.
It all seemed very laid back.
Get in as much as you can with or without the instructor but stay safe
Have a wonderful time
I am not sure soche,
6 x 2 hours seems very short. Ski School usually consists of 5 days and lasts from 10 till 12 then 2 till 3.30. Longer if you want a shorter dinner break.
Have you booked private tuition perhaps???
PP - it was the standard learn to board package with weeks hire, weeks lift passes and weeks tuition, i.e. 6 lots of 2hrs tuition.
Pretty much same as offered in a brochure I was looking at. Except some of them were 3x4hrs rather than 6x2hrs. Guess I shall see when I get there.
Could always sneak into a group - thats if i need lessons anyway...
