We to use the ATMs all the time with no problem and are able to withdraw 400 Bgn at any one time. You get a much better exchange rate doing it hat way too .
i used atm next to the ticket booth by the gondola station over the new year,i used my barclays debit card and was allowed to take out 800 levs in one single transaction ,also had better rate than available in uk,cheers Paul
As with ATM's anywhere just check that it looks correct, (no wires or flimsy looking pieces).
Just like Kas say's i always take minimal levs (enough to get thru first day) and use ATM's in Bulgaria. Never had a problem in the last 7 years all over BG. My uk bank is HSBC and consistantly gives very good exchange rate when checking withdrawals at home, no charge either when you have advance a/c. From my experience i have only been able to withdraw 400 levs max at a time.
I used the ATM in the Flora mostly last year (mainly because that's where we were staying) Was able to draw a fair bit more than £40 worth of levs.
I also used the ATM near the gondola and again, didn't seem restricted with the amount I could draw.
also never had any problems using them or anything dodgy..
