My experiences…… might be useful if you’re heading out there!
I have been snowboarding for 5 years now, and found a lot of the runs in Pamporovo a little difficult to navigate…. not because they are difficult, but because there are THOUSANDS of learners on the pistes!!

We were lucky enough to get a dump of around 6-8 inches of snow overnight on Tuesday, which allowed most of the main runs to open, and by Thursday some of it was pisted! Lots of rocks and ice showing by Friday, but altogether very enjoyable conditions considering how early in the season it is……
Now for the bad bit…… the queues! I’m assuming the sheer volume of people on the slopes were locals on their new year holidays, and therefore I wasn’t getting a typical picture of the place, but the lift operators really really need to sort out the queues at the uplift, particularly at the 4 person chair from half way up…… every other chair had one or two people in them rather than 4, and the queue it’s self was a complete free for all with no order, I spent more than an hour there several times…..
If you need to use a Taxi, arrange a price with the driver before you go, the meter runs faster than the hundredth column on a stopwatch!
Hotel Markony: Absolutely outstanding! Massive thanks to Slavi, Kosta and all the other staff for making our stay so enjoyable, and the man himself (Marko) for a very interesting conversation despite the absolute language barrier!
The Webcam: I’ts situated on the Hotel Markony which overlooks the lowest possible part of the slopes, and doesn’t give a true picture of what the pistes are like, it’s better than that, honest!
The tower: 5 leva to go to the top….. if it’s clear weather, do it! The best pictures I have of the holiday are taken from the balcony at the top!
And finally….. The Snow shack: I broke a binding on Thursday on my last run, these guys had me back on the hill after executing a perfect repair before all the queues started on Friday morning, and then serviced my board on Friday night ready for Saturday. Outstanding service, which is difficult to find in any other resort I have been to!
Go there, You'll love it!
Will try to post links to pics once I get them onto photobucket
Roz how bigs the bar at the Markony Hotel?
Just there's a gathering thats getting bigger by the day and were meeting there, about 30 of us that I know of.
It's black? ok, I thought it was red!!! It does have a little drag lift for the kiddies at the top, anyway, it was fun!
The bar in the Markony will take 30 without too much hassle, there seemed to be at least that many Irish in there most nights!! Have to recommend the food in there it's excellent.... and they are often spit roasting a lamb on the open fire too!
