Firstly, welcome to the area! How often will you be out here - is it just as aholiday home or do you plan on staying for longer periods?
In terms of security - you will definitely need this if you are not here permanently... we don;t have it at our house in samokov but mainly becuase we live here all year round but also because the 'grandma' is around and will scare anyone away....!!

The company that looks after all houses is COT (pronounced SOT) and they are very good. Bobby looks after a couple of houses for friends who have holiday homes here in the villages and they all have COT. You pay annually for your subscription (this is the cheapest way) and then if the alarm goes off at all then they automatically turn up at the property to check it. Bobby also gets a phone call from them as soon as it goes off as he is the contact here for those houses. Quite often he can get a phone call when it has gone off due to the electricity going off so you need to make sure you have a contact here in BG as well as this will be much easier for you. Also, bear in mind that their english is not that good, so if it will help, when you are next out, give us a call and Bobby will happily go the office with you to help you sort it out if you haven't got any Bulgarian friends (locals) that you know - you also will get a locals 'price' not an 'english' price....!!

I thought COT was an abbreviation meaning alarm system! That's the company I use.

Christine - you are correct and after re-reading my post realise i made a hash of it!! The alarm system is COT (owned and managed by ETS) - i meant that's the alarm system we all have / need...sorry!re: Anyone live in Samakov or surrounding area?

Already fallen foul of the thieves. We have had all our windows and doors stolen. Sadly at the moment we are not able to replace them as we now need some more building work done due to the damage they did ripping them out. For some reason the also took the electric meter.

Hello Saj and PipWe are permanently living in a village outside of Samokov, about 20 kms away. We moved here permanently about 3 years ago. I can advise that there are a number of Brits in the area.
