Anyone remember the Yamaha Fizzy?

Just talking in the pub last night about iconic stuuf from our early days...we all waxed lyrically about the Yamaha FSI (think it was 50cc) and all boy-racers had one - da ya remember?

Yamaha FS1E, drum brake model in gold....
Remember the autolube 2 stroke system, unknown on the Italian models, and the lights... you could actually see.
Not as fast as a Fantic (remember the `chopper' ?) or the Garelli, but much more reliable, and they worked in the rain Wink

re: Anyone remember the Yamaha Fizzy?

I had a Yamaha TY50P Trial bike. Great fun off road but to be fair by mate with his Fizzy also used to come off-roading with us and never had much problem.

I think the Suzuki AP50 was pretty fast too.

But the Honda SS50 was for boring kids who's dad chose what bike they could have.

My first 50cc was a Malaguti Monte cross, marzochi suspension, knobbly tyres, twin ratio rear sprocket, and an unlimited engine (pre-legislation) with expansion chamber. Could expect a piston to last about a month, and the exhaust had to be decoked every month or so. Fantastic in dry weather, but a hint of rain and it stopped because of crummy electrics. Eventually blew it up completely after about nine months, and invested in a FS1E, which i traded at 17 for an RD250 (good ole days when you ...

re: Anyone remember the Yamaha Fizzy?

As a footnote and applicable to another post, when i first got my 50cc it was not law to wear a helmet, which on occasions i did not (going down the beach, long hair, shorts, flip flops etc).... seems very long ago

Well done Steve.

Just as some viewers were starting to think that this thread had nothing to do with skiing you've made it all clear. It's crash helmets!

When I was 17 I hit an illegally parked tree on my Yamaha XS250. Woke up two days later in intensive care with multiple injuries including broken limbs and punctured lung. Bike was wrecked, but my head was intact, and hence I was alive, courtesy of my Bieffe crash helmet.

Same applies when skiing. You can overcome many injuries as ...
