BALKAN TOURS - BELFAST

Anyone travelling with Balkan Tours, either from Belfast or Dublin, please prepare yourself for some concearning news.

Only an hour ago we got word that our party of 7 have been apparently overbooked in the Iglika Palace and have to 'accept' their kind gesture of an upgrade to the 'cold war-esque' Samokov.

Due to depart this saturday, i find their notice of this change very annoying to say the least and the attitude of their staff when questioning the reasons why was appalling.

We cannot give you any explanation, was the only response I got from the intellectually challenged telephoninst.

A holiday is what you make it but I have spent the last year singing the praises of this company and they turn round and bite us in the posterior like this? Cheers Balkan, it was nice doing business but I am afraid I will not be using you in the future.

In disgust

This is becoming more and more common with Balkan Holidays. There have been several other postings here about it.

If its not the hotel its the flight that moves to another airport. You have the right to go where you've booked at the end of the day.

Last year I talked to a man who arrived at his hotel late in the evening to be told his room wasn't quite ready. When he eventually got fed up with waiting he went up to the room to find someone else in it. He had to wait til 5am until the ...

When he eventually got fed up with waiting he went up to the room to find someone else in it. He had to wait til 5am until the room was vacated with his wife and son. Not acceptable in my book.

Val,

Balkan Tours and Balkan Holidays are 2 completely different companies, and in no way are they connected.

Val,

Before you jump on the bandwagon and attack Balkan Holidays, please carefully read the post! As the insider points out, Balkan Tours is a completely different company.

I assume you are referring to a change of UK airport. Tour Operators sometimes have to consolidate their flights, as a certain route may have suffered due to a lack of support.

Therefore, rather than cancelling your holiday (which I’m sure would cause even more upset) they move you to the best alternative. ...

re: BALKAN TOURS - BELFAST

I book with Balkan Tours in Belfast every year and have never had any problems with them before. They have always been a very good company in my opinion. Yes, i would agree that them changing your hotel may not be good enough but at the end of the day mistakes do happen. I wouldnt be upset at being booked into the Samakov hotel. I cant judge the hotel as we always stay at the Rila but the Samokov is also a very good hotel. Dont let this upset your holiday though. Go and have a good time. ...

Val, The incident with the non-vacated room is very unfortunate, but is not Balkan Hol's fault. If a guest fails to vacate a room on time you cannot physicaly throw them out, all you can do is bill them for an extra night. Normaly hotels keep a few extra rooms free should problems like this occur, if the hotel failed to do this it is their fault and not balkan's.

re: BALKAN TOURS - BELFAST

Sounds to me that Balkan Tours are just as bad then. If you book a certain hotel that is where you want to go. Double booking is totally unacceptable in my book and to advise you at the last minute is a definite NO!!

Why do you stand up for companies who treat their customers in this way??

Alan is quite right in what he says in my opinion. When I book something specific then that is what I want. End of story.

I agree that overbooking is very bad practice, and shouldn't be accepted in the holiday industry like it is. It happens with the airlines as well, the day I'm told I can't take my flight because it's overbooked I will not be happy!

I was in pamporovo last week. We had two people join the group, aprox 5 wks prior to depature. Telephone Balkan TOURS Belfast and told no problem with availabilty.

Arrived in Plodiv and met the rep Tony. Also the only time he was seen all week. The two individuals where booked into another hotel away from the rest of the group. The rep said he had informed Belfast which i find hard to believe as it was booked through belfast.

It is not my first time travelling with Balkan TOurs Belfast, but it will be the last. As for tony, he was lucky he avoided us for the remainder of the week.
