re: BG is failing her forgotten children as well!!!
We don't turn children with special needs out with no money and only the clothes they stand in. They are given sheltered accommodation and help with managing life as an adult. They are given basic life skills training and preparation.
These children have had NOTHING not even been given their medication to take with them.

Slavcho has been constantly on my mind since I visited the orphanage. (write up about him on www.orphanagestoikite-bg.org) . He is a gentle lad, living in his own little world and just wanted to stroke our faces. He was taken off the streets not that long ago, was set on fire by a couple of the lads for a bit of fun, must still be traumatised about that and now has been kicked out or perhaps taken to some mental institution. Trevor - that's a bit harsh.
These kids get very little education, and 98% are not Orphans but just kids abandoned by their parents. When the directors 'think' the kids are 18 they are evicted from the Orphanage with no home, knowhere to go, no money, alone, frightened, and at the mercy of an uncaring world.
They often can only survive by commiting crimes to get money to feed themselves - get caught then probably thrown into prison. Others will be entangled in the web of physical, mental ...

Nobody is saying that these kids should be there forever, but some form of release education and placement needs to be adopted or these children will forever be victims when their only real crime against society was being born.
Quite honestly - your attitute makes me very angry indeed. Sleep well tonight in your nice warm bed Trevor.
God knows where those poor kids will find sanctuary tonight!
re: BG is failing her forgotten children as well!!!
Trevor,
These kids have no life skills, apart from what Amanda and Jasmine are trying to teach them they leave without any knowledge of work, no money, no place to go to. At least at 18 they perhaps can face the world a bit better than say 16, although I imagine most of these kids will end up in prostitution or criminals - how else can they exist. Read up about Slavcho . Albert being kicked out without medication - you dont think that Bulgaria is failing their orphans?
re: BG is failing her forgotten children as well!!!
Pete - I was so angry and was unsure what to say in reply but you have said it all - succinctly and it is exactly what I wanted to say.
Trevor, our primary concern is for a so-called 18 year old who lives inside his own head and is incapable of looking after himself and another who has a physical ailment and needs regular medication. We are not do-gooders or "mother hens" - we are just caring human beings who have spent time in the company of Slavcho and the others and our hearts go out ...

re: BG is failing her forgotten children as well!!!
So, what about these 'kids' when they are 20, 30, 40 or 50? When will the caring stop? or is it intended to go on into old age? When will the orphange become a elderly care home, or a combination of the two?
re: BG is failing her forgotten children as well!!!
Andie, I have not once said you are 'do gooders' or 'mother hens' so where you have got that from is maybe from your subconcious mind? As for a 'so called 18 year old' again I've responded to your post of the fact the kids are or approaching 18.
re: BG is failing her forgotten children as well!!!
Trevor - I wish I had the restraint to ignore your inane comments and not reply but you are either very stupid or simply enjoy provoking people. I think you know full well that what I am saying is that if these young people were given some grounding and education to go out into the world at the age of 18 to fend for themselves it would be easier for them.
I am very aware that young people in the UK have to go out into the world at a similar age but are at least they afre given guidance ...

I am very aware that young people in the UK have to go out into the world at a similar age but are at least they afre given guidance and are helped to find accommodation and jobs. They are not merely shown the door and that is the end of our responsibility.
As for your comment about "an elderly home" - get real -because you know full well that is not what we are concerned about here.
