Bansko for us every year. As for beginners, you couldn't be more wrong. The pistes were bashed more this year than previously, enabling learners to go higher and try out runs with everyone else. My wife learned to ski there with great intruction from a very patient female instructor.
Superb lessons all week and felt she came on leaps and bounds, compared to Italy. The gnats knob became a favourite run for my wife, in the beginning, especially at the end of a tiring day at ski school. ...

Superb lessons all week and felt she came on leaps and bounds, compared to Italy. The gnats knob became a favourite run for my wife, in the beginning, especially at the end of a tiring day at ski school. She could gently plough or parallel using what she'd learned for the full length of the run all the way back to the hotel. Excellent consolidation.

re: BORO OR BANSKO

I would strongly disagree that Yastrebets are harder than Tomba - in many places you slow almost to a crawl whereas Tomba is thigh burning all the way and much steeper

Mat, the bottom of the run in from the ski road that meets the base of the black off Chalin Valog is serviced by a t-bar which is ideal for beginners. I saw groups also at the end of the red being taught last season.
As for whats steeper ?? Challin Valog black is a challenge, especially with fresh snow but reasonably wide, Tomba even wider and not a constant gradient....
Now, how about the black mid way down the Dobriniste blue, thats narrow, and v steep Very Happy

Hahaha, my dads bigger than your dad, come on guys, to some extent you can make any slope a challenge if you want, ski it backwards, or on one ski.... or even `gulp' snowboard it Razz

re: BORO OR BANSKO

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the drag lift at the bottom of Chain Valog. You can also drive up to it thus avoiding the gondola hell on busy mornings. I haven't tried the Dobrinishte run yet - something for this season. Any off piste over that way?

re: BORO OR BANSKO

Yer right Mat, new road and bridge now to base of Challin Valog so i imagine its going to get some use this season. Re. the off-piste in Dobriniste, have viewed run under bottom half of chair and that looks interesting and portions of top but there looks to be some dead ends. Talking to a local he reckons theres loads on offer but best to ski with someone who knows their way. Could be a plan eh Very Happy Looking into running trips down to the chair at Dobriniste, maybe just a bit of finding out ...
