BUY OR HIRE -that is the Q

Hi there all you fellow skiers/boarders

Thinkin about next Xmas and pressie time. Would you buy your own ski boots or just hire? The thought of 1000's feet before me in my boots, doesnt exactly make me feel good. Might be a job related thing - I work in microbiology in the pathology lab at a hospital. So I know what mankky toenails etc look like!! Let alone the smell!!!!!!!!!!
But seriously, hopefully will be skiing a lot, would it be best to invest in some boots, and if so what ...

Buy - I have my own and the difference is very appreciable. When the boots mould to your foot and stay that way they are truly like slippers after a couple of weeks.

P.S. They still smell after a couple of hard days skiing but at least its your own smell. Razz

Hi Ski Bob

I have heard they mould your foot. Do you have to have them heated or something? I have some brochures and some womens ski boots have an element in them connected to a battery to keep your feet warm! Wouldnt have thought you need that, but I have only been skiing in this country.

What do you think? Women do have very delicate feet you know!!!!!!!! LOL Razz Razz

Hi Karen,

The apri snow boots are just big boots and they are really warm as they have padding in them!! We hired them last time but we used our feet as breaks so we got our own from our grandparents for crimbo!!

re: BUY OR HIRE -that is the Q

buy your own while youre out there. you can pick up a good pair for under £100 easily.
be prepared to try loads of different ones on though, i tried about 12 pairs on before deciding. some boots need heating then standing in for about 10 mins, some use natural heat.

re: BUY OR HIRE -that is the Q

Are they like walking boots?? Do they stop you from slipping on the snow/ice, or are they like a fashion boot??

I know you might be thinking DUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRR!!! But I am new to this skiing lark!! Sorry!!
