Positives:

Excellent for Beginners.
Hotel Lion. Food & Accomodation
Rental Equipment staff.

Negatives:
Queues. (Gondola and beginner drag lift !)
Rising prices. Rip off culture is worrying the employees.
Hotel Rila.Night club = total rip off
Advanced skiiers will have all runs complete by 3rd day.

Welcome back. Glad you enjoyed it. We've been going for some years and the advanced skiers still haven't got bored and skied a new run to them this year. So I'm sure you'll find something new next year. Very Happy Very Happy

re: Back from Borovets Review

I hope that Borovets grows and grows, the people are so friendly and helpfull I have too many instances of that during the week to mention.

I spoke to two instructors who independently were worried at how prices were climbing up, and they feared that people who liked Bulgaria for all its charm and good value would go to the 'more developed' resorts if the price difference became nullified.
EG
In Samokov (next door town to Borovets) prices for food and drink were HALF that of Borovets.

re: Back from Borovets Review

it is everywhere when you move from the resort prices are cheaper. If you want to go to murky town with ugly views and have a party that is fine. Why not travel another 50-100km in any directions and you will find dirt cheap everything.Borovets is a rip off at the present moment .

Hi,

I've not posted here in a while, thought I would pay a quick visit back and chip in!

I've been a Borovets regular for a good while now, doing either one or two trips a season. This year I caught excellent snow and weather conditions during the week of 19-26 January, probably the best I've ever had, and with the drag lifts and off piste beautifully uncrowded.

I normally provide comments after my trips, so thought I would add my 2p's worth here.

1) What's happened to the SuperBorovetz plan? Some of the locals are still talking about it, but there is no evidence of any development for new pistes. It would be great to have some new runs.

2) What's happened to the food and beer prices? The ski pass and ski hire are still excellent value, but in some eateries the prices have almost doubled since last year. With most hotels providing evening meals as part of the ski deal, the temptation is to stay there, especially if you have a family.

pq

re: Back from Borovets Review

Super borovets is going to happen work will start in the next year or 2 at the moment they are building a new gondala form samakov town all the way to the existing borovets and from what i understand work on the resort will happen after that is in place.
as for the prices dont get us all started again on that one. They have gone up but i dont think its all that bad, the prices are what they are if we as english are not happy then we wont go i guess, I will be back next year for sure.

You can see the site in Samokov Town on the left as you enter the town from Borovets. They're just finishing the new 4 man chair lift in Samokov first.
