Bansko - A building site?

Is Bansko really a big building site where it hardly ever snows? I'm considering it but most of the research I've done suggests it is the cheapest resort in Bulgaria for a reason.

re: Bansko - A building site?

Quite the opposite.

Bansko is now the premier resort in Bulgaria with state of the art lifts and top quality hotels.

I am a Pamporovo freak purely because I have so many friends there after visiting it for the past 13 years, but Bansko is the future of Bulgarian skiing, and anyone who tells you otherwise has never been there.

If, as you say, you've done a 'lot of research' how come you have never posted on this site before?

re: Bansko - A building site?

Who says it dosen't snow in Bansko, snowing like mad at the moment, looks set for the day

At the end of the season last year (mid april) still 2 meters of snow on the mountain!!!!!!!!

I think you will find Bansko has the best snow record of all the bulgarian ski resorts

Yes Bansko currently looks like a building site, but it has gone from an almost unknown destination to forgien tourists, to being very popular in two years. This requires accomodation to be built!!!

Do some more ...

re: Bansko - A building site?

for the 1st time ever i am going back to the same hotel in the same resort. Yes they are building in Bansko, but the skiing is fine. If your looking for a real pretty ski resort then pay double and go to Austria, France etc etc. Bansko is great and they have loads of snow. Just book it and enjoy.

re: Bansko - A building site?

Fair question - 'a lot of research' was a loose term. I've actually done a small amount of digging around on various web sites before i stumbled across this one (which I have to say seems by far the best). I like the way the comments seem to be written by real people who know what's going on.

Thanks for your help.

Strazhite Nice big basic hotel with hot food, two or three bars, big bedrooms, swimming pool, sauna, steamroom and bowling attached. Its great for a family holiday and damn cheap (or was last year).

re: Bansko - A building site?

I was in Bansko last year in Feb and loved it. The snow conditions were fantastic. Yes there is some building work going on but it is not visible from the slopes or from the centre of the old town.

re: Bansko - A building site?

just got back from Bansko, yes there is a lot of building work (mainly on the outskirts) but that didn't stop us from having a brilliant time, can't wait to go back.
