Bansko Hotel + Conditions

Hi Guys,

first time poster so be gentle. Off to Bansko on Sunday 9th for a weeks holiday. Any comments on the Hotel Bankso? I've read a few reviews stating that the food is not the best. Just looking for info about how close the hotel is to the main gondella and surrounding bars / restaurants. This is my first snowboarding holiday and only previous experience is SNOWZONE at xscape in leeds.

Also any comments on whether snow is due next week or not.

Thanks

Welcome!
If it's the one I'm thinking of it's about 10-15 min walk from the gondola (Glazne St?) but the Hotel will no doubt have a shuttle service running. Happy end by the gondola has a good atmosphere but is at the pricey end of the market compared to most. The Lion is another good one 5 mins from the gondola. There is a load of info on this board about restaurants - really depends what you are looking for - ie: international or local Bulgarian..... Try having a search while you wait for ...

Sure you'll love it - it's a great place and hopefully more of the mountain will be open by the time you go... Good Luck.

re: Bansko Hotel + Conditions

Hi McMoodle,

Thanks for the response. Basically looking to keep it cheap. Were on half board but depeding on the quality of the food we may eat out the majority of time. I've seen some people quote about 30lv for a 3 course meal which seems pretty reasonable to me. I just found the site about the lifts and runs that are open. Hopefully more will be open by Monday morning (I'm currently praying to the snow gods)

re: Bansko Hotel + Conditions

I stayed at the Bansko last year. It is at least a km from the gondola, but runs a shuttle bus regularly, unless you fancy the trudge up the hill every morning or a taxi
I ate in the hotel only once as the food is pretty dire. It is reasonable enough to eat out every night which is what we did.
The rooms are great. The one we had was bigger than the first flat I bought!!

The hotel is okay apart from food and distance to the gondola, which can have a horrendous queue if you arrive at the wrong time. The queue last year was almost 2 hours, but it was the Russian holiday, so next week should be quieter.
This year I am staying at the Strazhite because it is a lot closer to the lift.

Thanks Guys,

I don't mind a little walk in the morning to wake up however if the shuttle is ready and waiting I'll be on it.

When does the Russian holidays end? We've timed it outside of UK holidays but forgot about other.

re: Bansko Hotel + Conditions

According to my research, Russian christmas is 7 Jan, this being due to the orthodox church following the julian calendar as opposed to the gregorian that we follow.
I would expect it to be for a week much as our christmas.

Ulen have apparently bought a fleet of busses to take the pressure off the gondola, we will have to see.

It looks to be snowing at the top of the mountain at the moment, once there is sufficient cover I am sure they will open the lifts further up.

re: Bansko Hotel + Conditions

Does this mean that next week is a russian holiday? Are the russians etc going to be in Bansko next week? I was there this time last year and it was a nightmare and chose to go next week to avoid it. Aaaaaw FFS!!!! Holiday ruined before I even get there. Two hour queue for the gondola with rude folk pushing in? Or are they all there this week and this weekend is the end of the holiday?
