re: Bansko Jan 2010

The mountain is entirely closed for that week because of the new year holidays. Bulgarians are a deeply religious people and follow strict pagan rituals over this important period. Sorry, your tour operator should have told you. On the plus side, you could have the opportunity to be a central part of the celebrations http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_sacrifice

Yeah this happened to us four years ag,. But I do recommend joining in the celebrations.

Word of advice: do not bring your first born with you. They force the tourists to have a raffle with the winner having to sacrifice their first born on the pagan altar in the middle of the village. Not for the faint hearted!!!

Hi Steve C, can you please let me know if the lifts/schools open as early as 5th Dec. We are planning a trip 5th - 13th Dec - all of us are beginners...so would like to know if we can get to the training slope. Much appreciated.

re: Bansko Jan 2010

nb !!
this is bulgaria ! nobody knows, everything is left until the last minute ! it is the bulgarian way !!
If there is snow i am sure everthing will be open, but the 5th is early for snow ! sometimes it comes, sometimes not. I have skied as early as November 11th and the latest 17th december.

they now have more snow cannons, but it still needs to be cold ! I do not think even steve can arrange that ! lol
