Bulgarian Environment Minister Nona Karadjova has rejected a plan by local firm Yulen, the concession-holder of ski facilities in Bansko winter resort, to upgrade the existing ski lift and drag, according to the ministry's website.
The minister gave the thumbs-down to the two projects two weeks after halting the construction of a tea-room in the Plateau locality in the resort's ski zone at the foot of the Pirin Mountain.
Karadjova said that she made the decision because the three construction sites are not included in the concession area outlined in the contract of 2001 and as such could infringe the management of Pirin national park.
Yulen will appeal against the minister's decision in court, senior company official Peter Petrov told Dnevnik.
The company intends to replace the current three-seat lift linking the Shiligarnika locality with Todorka peak with a four-seat or a six-seat facility. The second project envisages the construction of a four-seat lift replacing the current drag along the old ski track.
The decisions are consistent with the environment minister's earlier pledges to ban new construction in the ski area in the resort until the Government and Yulen solve their dispute over the concession coverage area. Karadjova said in June the concessionaire has built about 65 hectares more than the concession contract allows.
Yulen, in turn, said the ministry's data on the concession coverage was incorrect.
The ministry said in a statement it would take new measurements and compare them with the concession-holder's data to solve the problem.
They will sort their differences (Ulen will pay more fines) and the works will proceed. The upgrade for the t-bar was intended this summer as they have the equipment stored from the removal of the old 4 man at the top of the gondola. The body of people bringing the action to halt any development in the resort are intent on Bansko returning to the sleepy idle that it was 10 years ago, and to have all the development removed from the mountain. The body of people bringing the action to halt any development in the resort are intent on Bansko returning to the sleepy idle that it was 10 years ago, and to have all the development removed from the mountain. Nona Karadjova (a lady) has already stated that this would be lunacy, but has to be seen as being impartial when actions are bought. The same group were responsible when the works were halted last summer on the upgrade of the 4 man from the top of the gondola, for the supposed felling of 20 trees... over 300 fell in the last big storm...
2013 has already been accepted as the date for the expansion of intrusion into the national park in the Razlog valley, by the way of rezoning areas that previously had been protected, this could conceivably allow for 330km of piste within the valley. Ironic really that this existing action is being acted on, but i suppose things have to take their course...
Well as long as the temperatures are good for running cannons then yes.
The streams should have been dealt with whilst this has been in progress. I f I get the chance I will cycle up and have a look and poss take some pics.

Thats what we do in the summer here MTB and I am not as fit as I would like this year. Not done as much XC more DH but started my new fitness program last week whilst Steve C is working in Samokov for 2weeks.
Is the expectation that this ski season will be quiet over Europe due to the economic climate, or will the cheaper resorts be more preferable - or will the big resorts cut their prices to sustain the footflow???
No pic's yet Gareth sorry, couldn't get up the mountain yesterday as had work. Hopefully tomorrow now.
