Bansko Snow Cannons, Am I missing something?

Hi all,

Flying out to Bansko on the 29th so obviously keepping my fingers crossed for more snow, but i am a little confused as to why more runs are not open at present.

I thought that there was virtually 100% snow cannon coverage but there seems to be only 4 or 5 runs open. Can they not run all the cannons at the same time or something?

I figured that if the snow there has been and cannons can keep some runs open why not them all?

Have to agree with you lefty, how can the ski road be open all the way to the town and the runs at the very top of the mountain be clossed !

re: Bansko Snow Cannons, Am I missing something?

Really not sure why - local rumour indicates that there has not been enough lift passes purchased this year to warrent opening up all slopes?? Bulgarians do have strange ways of doing things so this wouldn't surprise me at all as there has been a reasonable amount of snow the last couple of nights and the coverage on upper slopes seems more than adequate but without a proper inspection unable to comment further. Anyone been up top today yesterday that can comment further? If it is anything ...

Anyone been up top today yesterday that can comment further? If it is anything ither than a safety issue they really haven't done themselves any favours. Also out of courtesy to people who have booked flights or thinking of coming they really should be a site that gives accurate information about the status of all slopes and when they are planning on opening them (weather permitting)

Also there are no snow cannons being used from around 2000 upwards...

There is something wrong here.. Hundreds of people queuing like mad because there is only one Gondola. But then not enough ski passes have been bought? I don't care if there hasnt been enough ski passes bought! We have paid to SKI!!

Wait till the world cup race is due. All the cannons concentrate on race piste. The punters who buy passes don't matter.

I have this concern. I arrive on Sunday and believe it's a quieter week. If there are not enough skiers, will the area available be limited? if this happens, I won't be too happy.

Perhaps Steve C can shed a little light on the lack of runs opened! What do you think Steve?

joe c is right in what he says.they wont open all the lifts until it warrants it? we were in bansko at the end of jan last year ,and it was the first weekend of the season they opened all the slopes.strange when people are queueing miles for the gondola Confused Confused
