I fancy trying Bansko next season due to the good comments I see about it here and what others have said in Pamps. I am in a bit of a muddle as to choosing hotels. I fancy somewhere within 5 minute walking distance of the gondola preferably 4 * with warm food ( risking another ear bashing here) but also near to the towns nightlife (as in a nice friendly bar , not too loud to wash down the chocco rums in the evenings) Also some games or entertainment for kids 17 & ...
Hi all Bansko fans,

I think I will be booking with Balkan 'cos I am really impressed with them up to now Any suggestions ?
If you want walking distance to the Gondola there are 2 great hotels. Both 4 star both 5 to 10 mins to the Gondola, both have good food and lots of different things to do.
The Perun
The Strazite (not sure of the spelling)
The Strazite is closer to the town centre and just opposite a great bar.
Both can be booked through Balkan if thats your preferance.
Well we stayed at the Pirin which we liked. There is a bus to the slopes and about a 10 minute walk to the centre of the town. We also liked the location of the Strazhite as it is close to the slopes and opposite the Lions Bar which is at the top end of the main street. It also has bowling which might suit your children. The Lions Bar is popular due to Sky Sports but we preferred the Kafe Parfe about halfway along the main street. It is cheaper and more used by the locals.

Loved Bansko. We want to go back next year if we can. If I can help further let me know.
It doesn't matter where you are are in the town you have to take the Gondola up to the slopes. The Strazhite and Perun are the closest 4 stars to the Gondola.
Loads of different places to eat and drink. Over 100 traditional Mehanas.
I think Sofia is closer. Last time I was there the transfur was 2 3/4 hours to Bansko and 3.1/2 back to Sofia due to a load of snow on the roads.
About 5 mins from the slopes I would say. You leave hired skis at the hire shop at the gondola so this makes it easier. Loads of restaurants within easy walking distance. You'll be spoilt for choice. Both traditional and western tastes.
Sofia is closer.
We went with Neilson and would probably stick with them. Heard a few bad reports about Balkan.
Accept comments about Balkan. I tend to forget who I am with as soon as I have my skis on feet I just look at the price and flights. I have read on here that Nielsons charge alot for Ski packages is this true ?
Pretty small place really - about 10-15 mins would do it I think.
Depends on when you go as far as lift queues - we were there mid Jan this year and never had to wait more than 2 mins for the gondela. Same for all the lifts come to that - very refreshing.
You'll love it.

Also, a huge 5* is being built just next to the gondela, should be open anytime now, not sure if it will be in the Balkan brochure, but certainly looks stunning...
