Bansko for a change?

I have been to Pamporovo with a group of mixed ability skiers twice now. Quite fancy a change for next year and thought Bansko may be quite good as it seems to have better snow conditions. Having read a few reviews I seem to notice that Gondola queues can be quite a problem? There may be a group of 18 travelling next year so anyone know where would be good to stay? Any pro's and con's would be great to help us choose our next destination. Thanks.

Done Pamps 5 times been to Bansko twice and off again next month. Bansko is head and shoulders above Pamps in my book. Loads of places to eat and drink plenty of good hotels better snow more runs need I go on? Give it a go.

Thanks Daniel. Any idea which hotels are the best, don't have to be posh just clean, comfy and in the resort?

re: Bansko for a change?

Have not been to Pamps so cannot comment but have done Boro. Like Boro for some things but Bansko is my first love.

Lots of good hotels and lots of apartment complexes too. Depends what you want to do really. I initially did hotels but now stay in apartment as it has the facilities of a hotel (pool, spa etc) but we like to eat out in the lovely mehanas (Bansko is a great 'real' old town) so are happy to be self catering in apartment.

Gondala queues are reported from time to time. Again, depends on when you go - obviously Christmas, New Year and Feb half-term are the worst. General advice seems to be get to the gondola early i.e. 8.20am ready for when it opens or avoid the rush 8.30am/9am (when everyone heading up for example, for ski school) and the queue builds and lasts a while - go out for a cracking late night and have a later start i.e. 10am-ish. That tends to be my style but I am a 'lazy skier' these days - lol. I go up late and stay late on slopes where others may go early and finish earlier or the real die-hards (sorry, proper skier or boarders go up early and stay on slopes til last). All down to what you want to do really. Point is, gondola will be worse at peak times. Again, don't know what your group consists of but if there are young children then people with young children are walked up swiftly in the queue. Other alternative if there are a few of you to share the transport is to avoid the gondola and get transport up to the Shiligarnika ski area. Steve C who posts on here now lives in Bansko and provides a transfer service to and from airport and is also (I believe) able to or is planning to do trips to Shili. He will prob read this and comment but he can be contacted at [email protected].

Lots of us on here will be able to offer you advice about Bansko so just ask away or email if you want.

Hope that helps. I am off for my 6th visit to Bansko soon.

if you want a package hol then the perun is a good hotel, great bar area and facilities.
