Hi Ian. I went to Boro some 14 years or so ago and then again a couple of years ago. Boro and Bansko I think are very different - both offer great skiing but are different.
Boro is a purpose built resort and in my mind, more commercialised with the bars, touts, layout etc. I dunno, hard to explain what I mean.

Bansko is a real 'old town' that has been turned into a ski resort so there is much more (only my opinion) of a 'real town' feel to the place. There are many, many local mehanas and they are truly good.
I prefer the skiing in Bansko as in my mind (again, only my opinion) the layout is much better i.e. the connecting of the lift system. In Boro you have the Rila part and then the gondola up to the other parts. In Bansko you get one gondola up and then the whole ski area is there, all connected very well. When I went to Boro I found the gondola seeming worn and 'tired' - but of course, Bansko is a much newer resort therefore the gondola and all the lifts are in much better condition.
Bansko has it's downside in that it has been turned into 'building site city' - I have watched this happen as when I first went there were not many hotels or apartments and were still fields and farm areas - all this has now gone and it is many complexes. That said, this was always the plan for Bansko and I do believe it will get finished neatly and nicely eventually.
I like some quirky things about Boro i.e. the horse carts etc but for me, ski system-wise, views, mehanas etc, Bansko will always draw me back.
Finally, having been for some time now and watching all three resorts avidly, I will say that Bansko does seem to be more snow sure than Boro or Pamps.
As I say - just my opinion. Each to their own but I would certainly recommend trying Bansko if you have never been,
I'm going to Bansko this year after going to Borovets for 2 years. The one thing that I might miss is the nightlife, but Bansko sounds good.
I'm going with 2 complete beginners and although don't mind giving them some lessons, it might be better coming from pro. In Borovets you can find someone on the slopes to get a lesson, is it easy in Bansko? Where do you recommend going? Then I can go off and attempt some jumps and spins!
i'l echo the fact that banso's skiing/pistes/lifts/swipe access are light years ahead of boro's, i havnt been to pamps but i went to boro for a day recenlty and was amazed at how dated and poorly managed it is compared to bansko
The queues for the gondola have not been as bad as last year, numbers are down generally, so that is reflected.
New year was busy, and we are expecting a rush for half term, but hopefully the management of the gondola will be better in that they actually fill each car, like they did at new year. I have been running people up to Shilligarnika on the mountain road (25mins), from their apartments, was working out about 5lv a head with a full bus, but there has not been the need ...
