re: Bansko wild dogs

Hi,

I was up in Bansko last year looking at apartments about 1 mile out of the town centre at the bottom of Pirin and was chased by about 5 wild dogs, thought they were wolves at first. Didn't get me but unfortunately nipped another guy we were with, certainly got the heart pumping! I'd avoid wondering off into fields or off the beaten track, alternatively carry a big stick!!!

Hasn't put us off though going back this year.

re: Bansko gondolas

I had a similar experience last year to Mike (above). We were staying at appts a way down from the Lion etc. There was a goat shed admist all the development going on and we could hear the goats. There were also chickens roaming around and a couple of donkeys. I was with my son (then 7yr). Thought it would be nice to take a peek at the animals only for 3 HUGE dogs to burst out from nowhere - very VICIOUS. We were lucky to get away with ni injury and my son was terrified to the point it ...

We were lucky to get away with ni injury and my son was terrified to the point it was a prob to go in/out the appt and up this road again. It seems the dogs knews this because blow me the next night we walked down the road - not near the goat shed - they appeared again. I was with others who tried to shoo them off but they were determined dogs! I will never stay there again purely because my son would cause such a prob - they may not even be there now anyway - who knows. I gather these were prob loose guard dogs of the goat shed area but the point is this: DO be careful if you wander off track. Also re: the dogs at the gondola etc. Yes, all very sweet but again I would never pet them or let my son too near as you just never know when one may 'turn' - I would not like to think what diseases etc they may be carrying either. View from a distance, say 'aaah' by all means but leave it at that!!!

re: Bansko gondolas

When I was in Bansko last year I became pretty attached to the dogs. Being a huge dog lover and having once brought a stray back from Bulgaria, I can assure you that 99% of these dogs are very friendly and will not harm anyone. I used to nick things from breakfast and take it down for them. They never once were anything other gentle and loving even when I had food in my hands they waited to be offered it.

I'm sure there is a bad one amongst them somewhere, but if there is, I certainly ...
