I know there's a lot of Bansko vs Boro posts out there already, but I've been offered an holiday that includes flights, transfers, accomodation, lift passes and equipment hire, for about £550. I've checked online an if there's anything much cheaper, it doesn't seem to have the convenience of having it all bundled together. Plus it's my first snowboarding/skiing holiday.

Anyway, what I'd like to know is if you, with all your prior and current knowledge of the two resorts would you choose to go on for your first winter sports holiday? Both the hotels are 4* (Iglika Palace in Boro, or the Lion in Bansko), but as I understand it, the hotels seem to be of a bit better standard in Bansko, if the last week of researching and forum lurking is anyhing to go by!
Also, I'm going on my own, so I'm looking for a friendly atmosphere and want to make some friends while I'm out there to socialise, board wih (probably be best if you're a newbie too so I don't hold you back on the slopes!) and generally have a good time!
Am I better off going to the very commercial Boro, or stick to the highly praised bansko (which I don't know anything about really!)?
I'm going on the 13th March too, so which resort would be better for weather at this time in your experience, bearing in mind that although I'm an average skiier, I'll be snowboarding, which I've never done.
I'm leaning towards Bansko, what do you think?
Also, if anyone else wants to meet and is goin' the same week, let me know!
I would say Borovets. I have stayed at the Iglika and it is a good hotel by bulgarian standards. The resort is compact, all bars and eateries within walking distance of hotel so if you meet up with people from your skiing group for a drink you will be within walking distance of everywhere.
Bansko. Better mountain, runs, snow conditions etc. Having been to both it's a balanced view based on reality over having an emotional connection to the place. I'm in france this year.
Bansko... Lion hotel is of a much better standard than Iglika and a lot newer. All bansko lifts are open, snow is still great and the price of food drinks etc etc is cheaper than Boro.
Sweet! Thanks Nightmuffy & Steve! Just waiting for the rep to call
me back! Gonna book Bansko @ the Lion methinks - although not looking forward to the 3 hour transfer!
I've stayed in the Iglika Hotel before. Pretty good if you're in the 'Superior' rooms. Can't disagree with the comments about Bansko having better skiing in terms of a bigger mountain, more snow sure, modern lifts.
However Borovets does have the convenience of being an actual ski resort, a compact one with everything close at hand if you're staying in one of the central hotels, Iglika is central. As everything is concentrated in the centre it's only a short walk to find the busy ...

I think historically Bansko has better snow conditions and with conditions this year not being that great in Borovets plus the fact you're planning on going later in the season then Bansko is the safer bet for snow conditions.
