Bansko skiing closed

Ulen in their wisdom have closed the ski lifts earlier than the posted 30th April. To add to the irony 15-20cm of fresh snow fell last night, check the cams Mad
I skied on the last day, ok, it was a little heavy on top but great cover, only the lower runs really showing wear.
Now im no economist so cannot really comment on the financial pressures to close a ski resort, but i am a realist and have to admit that this seems like just another nail in the coffin of tourism in Bansko. I think ...

Now im no economist so cannot really comment on the financial pressures to close a ski resort, but i am a realist and have to admit that this seems like just another nail in the coffin of tourism in Bansko. I think visitors would appreciate a resort closing because of lack of snow, but to close and to post a pathetic reason of `warm weather' Mad Its April for christs sake !!!! More like there are not enough tourists !!!!! Little bloody wonder when you treat them like this..... For those people who bought season passes (not me by the way), contact Ulen and demand a refund for the 18 days you have had to miss out on Cool...... And i thought they were actually trying to get things right, you know, actually show customer care, silly me Confused

This happens every year just this year they got caught out by the warm snap, thought the season was done and fired everyone. Lets face it, they stop bringing package tours over at the end of March so there is hardly anyone around - just season ticket holders and they've already got their money! They do usually keep the lifts open to Bulgarian Easter or mid-late April, but never to the end of the month.

But you're right - if they don't keep the lifts open to the day they say they will, who ...

This happens at ski resorts all round the world - plenty of snow on the ground but the lifts stop turning.
At this time of year there are no package holiday punters, people from the 'local' cities are more interested in summer activities therefore the slopes are very quiet.
If there are not enough punters to pay the massive running costs of a ski operation it is not worth staying open.

Can't believe they closed the resort, didn't they know Steve C wants to continue skiing?

Hey Steve, you offer a transfer service don't you? Would you operate a 52 seater bus to and from Sofia all day long for two weeks with only 1 passenger on each journey?
