re: Bansko skiing closed

Season has to end some time and once high numbers are down the running costs wont be meet. Could have weekend opening though as should attract locals.

re: Bansko skiing closed

If i had offered initially SN to operate to a date then perhaps i may feel a certain obligation, as for me skiing at this time, unlikely because of family commitments. I feel sorry for the group (2 adults 2 kids)i bought in last Saturday and others who were told the whole resort is closing and would not be able to ski, but hey.... what the hell, as long as Ulen/First Investment/Balkan don't lose to much money. Hopefully next season they will promote the season as from Dec 1st (if there are ...

Hopefully next season they will promote the season as from Dec 1st (if there are enough people) till April 30th (if there are enough people, and enough snow, and its not to warm etc)...
I was impressed with their efforts in Dec, four runs open and the ski road to the town, and with few tourists. I suppose on your reckoning SN that we cannot expect that next season then ?? Cool

re: Bansko skiing closed

Preparing the slopes in early December and opening them with few tourists around is very different to shutting up shop at the end of the season.

As or bringing Balkan in to it, I can assure you that had they ended their season when the other tour operators did then Ulen would have closed the slopes even earlier. They are the reason it stayed open as long as it did. Their last flight left on 12 April, and this is when the slopes closed. Ulen kept the slopes open making a loss that last ...

Sorry about the family of 4 that can't ski, but it is a big risk going at that time of the year and a little bit of research on their behalf, they would have discovered that the slopes will be closed. I for one knew they would close on this date for a couple of weeks, and I believe I even read this on one of these forums.

re: Bansko skiing closed

So am i right in understanding as you have written that the skiing only stayed open for the benefit of Ulens partner company Balkan ?? Also then would it be correct that Ulen are only interested in servicing the needs of tour companies ?? Surely because of the large proportion of owner type accomadation in Bansko with guests arranging their own transport (in the case of party of four, they had booked flights two months previous before posting of early closing) they should have a greater ...

Also then would it be correct that Ulen are only interested in servicing the needs of tour companies ?? Surely because of the large proportion of owner type accomadation in Bansko with guests arranging their own transport (in the case of party of four, they had booked flights two months previous before posting of early closing) they should have a greater consideration from Ulen. Look, we obviously stand on differant sides of the fence so will never agree, basically my gripe is that if a company makes an indication as in the case of Ulen operating till April 30th, and this was heavily promoted pre-season, then it should fulfill its obligation weather permitting. If their season had officially been due to end on March 31st, then i would have been the first to say `well done for staying open!'
I will give credit where credit is due, and in the case of Ulen i have been impressed with their committment last summer with the works on the mountain, and have posted such. Please be aware i am seeing the disappointment first hand with guests who feel they have been let down, and personally i agree with them...

re: Bansko skiing closed

The 30th April date is to give the marketing people the '4 month season' bollocks. But you're right - if they say it will be open and there is snow, it should be opened.

re: Bansko skiing closed

Even if they are making loss currently thats irrelevant they run for the whole of the season/weather permitting. If they advertise an end date & then have great snow but then close sure thats mis selling?

Did you buy lift passes at the same time as the flights? Igf you had then clearly your sole reason for going there at that time of the year is for skiing.

Every April there is always great snow at the start of the month year after year it happens...

re: Bansko skiing closed

If they advertised to stay open till then end of this month then they should, if there is enough snow.
How do you disagree on this sn??

re: Bansko skiing closed

I would ask for a refund on the remainder of my season pass if they were contactable. I may even beg to ask what their 5 year plan is.
