Simon,
The costs can vary, but compared to town it can be double. Its a captive audience up the mountain, although we have skied down the ski road, had lunch at the Pizza place attached to the Kempinski, and got the gondola back up. The bad news is it can take about an hour & a half.
Budget for 10-15 lev for lunch on the mountain, and this will only be for soup, a couple of meatbals & a coffee.
If you are in ski classes your instructors will bring you to different places everyday.. ...

If you are in ski classes your instructors will bring you to different places everyday...I'm told they get commission, If you are a beginner, then you are stuck around the top gondola station where there are 3-4 places to eat.
If you are staying half board somewhere, I recommend having as big a breakfast you can eat, then stock piling food at Breakfast from the buffets. The array of breads & meats are fantastic for making a few sandwiches, and dont forget a few hard boiled eggs. This means you will only need to sheel out for drinks, which could be bought in supermarkets before you head up the mountain!!!!
Depends what you want, traditional `clay pot' meal in Friends is from 6.80lv (white cheese, shopski style), kebabs in the kiosks outside, 7lv... pizza slice 4lv... huge hotdog 5lv....
Avoid Bla Bla, Goat... in fact any Ulen run restaurant (all at top of gondola)... to expensive, and the food is cr*p....
Actually, the Bla Bla outside servery does do a decent kabache, but still pricey.....
Try the bar (rakia !!!) at side of ski road, traditional meatball, kabache, kebab, salads etc.... ...

Most hotels would object to you making sandwiches for lunch at breakfast. Sadly the large numbers of pikeys who must do so means that they usually have notices telling you not to. Some people have no shame. The non-Ulen owned places at Shiligarnika offer good food at pretty reasonable prices. The Ulen places manage to mix miserable service with poor quality and expensive food (apart from the cool place at the top of the mountain that just burnt down)
I appreciate the instructors may get some sort of incentive to take us learners to certain bars but can some one give me a rough idea of say a pizza and a pint?
