nice to see i generated some discussion I have been to France Austria and Canada whilst going to Bansko in the half term week was not ideal but going with kids means half term. Sorry to disagree Norman - but we had the same queues in January - so it's no point telling people any other way than the way it was -- and those are the facts.
I've also just returned from Bansko and my thoughts are as follows....if you go to the gondola between 08.30 and 10.30 - the queues were about 45 minutes of pushing and shoving but if you skied after then, you went straight up the mountain which took 30 minutes. There needs to be some organisation at the lift station to stop the chaos and the pistes do need to be better maintained as by the end of the week there were rocks and debris all over the place which caused damage to skis if not ...

Ski school was a joke as there were 15 people to 1 instructor so if you want lessons book 1:1 and pay the extra. We also stayed at the Perun and enjoyed the food which was hot and plentiful with good choice for all, cleanliness of the hotel was good and the staff were very friendly. Half term was busy but we expected this so won't make the mistake of travelling then again. On the plus side, the lift passes and ski hire etc are much cheaper than any US or Alpine resort but you have to way that up against the scale of the skiable area which is only 65km and the fact its not a typical pretty resort. As for the resort with all the building going on theres no way the resort will survive with just one mountain and one bubble lift, it will get too congested. Snow conditions weren't ideal but this can't be helped and at the end of the day going to Bansko is a cheap option and you get what you pay for!!
We have stayed at the Perun this year and totally disagree with you Chris about the standard. It's much better than any 4* hotel I've stayed in in England. Not sure about your gripes about bus service, as we've always found them regular and efficient. Can't really see how 1 bus servicing all town would improve getting to ab from gondola station. It's easily walkable from Perun anyway. Last week was half-term for some areas , so assume most ski resorts would be busier. We also like Bansko as ...

We also like Bansko as we hate drag lifts , and find we can ski where we want without having to touch one. Agree with you about congestion because at the moment with the current level of building, the resort is setting itself up to fail. It's appeal has been quiet slopes, relaxed nightlife, and value for money. We going back on 10th march so will report bavk again then.
Just read PP's message about queues. Think you were there same week as us and reason for queues was that the womens Europa cup was being held that week , and spectators wee also using gondola.
one ski bus would not get every one from a to b but the perun last week did struggle with a transit 1. so many people 2. the roads are narrow and bulgarians have not discovered lane discipline (neither have the brits). did walk one day with ski boots and skis not recommended when I had to wait 50 mins to get on the gondola. if when the developers got their land and were told before you lay a brick build an access road, pavement then you can lay a brick the whole town would benefit. the perun ...

We've looked at Canada, but why does all the accomodation have such a huge surcharge if just 2 of you want a room?? I looked at Crystalski etc. but if just me and hubby went we have to pay a fortune in underoccupancy . Even hotel double rooms sleep 4 - I don't get it!!
