just got back from my first trip and very dissappionted however every thing every one said on this web site was right. I have no doubt in a few years bansko will be ok but right now they need to sort themselves out.
Gondola queue's of upto 2 hrs are just going to put people off. they need another one soon if all the building is anything to go by.
The town is a bomb site at the moment no one taking responsiblity for the roads pavements etc.

Each hotel does its own thing of getting you to the gondola would be far better if there was a large ski bus running around like france/austria.
Snow conditions good at the start poor by the end if global warming continues Bansko will not survive.
Too many T bars, Buttons on long runs which should be chairs. Some runs are not serviced by the groomers making some of the reds into blacks leading to accidents.
Stayed in the Perun would not say this is a four star hotel quality of rooms dull and if they build the holiday homes like the rooms god help the poor people who have purchased their. for example in the bathroom bath fittings coming off the wall nearly broke my neck getting out of the shower. Food was ok staff very friendly but food was cold no menu telling you what you were eating but they got the hang of that by the last day.
Ski school groups of upto 15 to 1 instructor not safe also told by reps the ski school have been hiring any one from sofia who can ski and not necessarily an instructor. also told some instructors turned up to collect their money but left prior to doing any teaching.
overall the mountain is pretty good some good runs and skiing would be excellent if they had the conditions and serviced the piste property will not return unless there are some major changes. i suspect this will not please some people but only saying it as I saw it.
Fair comment chris.
If this is what you found and you have experience of other countries then there can be few arguments. Glad you were objective and didn't get too carried away by your disappointment with the trip.
I was in pamps for the second time two weeks ago and it was unsafe on some runs because of the ice. We are talking green runs for begginers, you know those people least equiped to deal with poor piste conditions and those most likely to hurt themselves and others, yet it was ...

Pepe - spot on about the beginners. We just got back from Pamps last night. The green run from mid-station down was 80% mud/stumps/rocks, yet instructors STILL taking people down. Scariest by far though was the slope from the ski centre to the 3-man chair. It melted to puddles every afternoon, then froze solid overnight. This meant you had to ski on sheet ice down to lift every morning. We saw numerous accidents and if I'd been a beginner there's NO WAY I'd have gone down there!
Agree with this honest appraisal. Our experiences were much the same re Gondola queues Ski school etc.
I think snow conditions put a lot of pressure on everyone. Tempers were frayed and I sure locals in resort must get cheesed off by the moans and groans.
The old town was lovely and we ventured out of our hotel one night to have a fab meal in a mehana. So cheap compared to hotel and new resort prices.

However we did speak to a Bulgarian holiday rep who expressed his concern over the capitalistic attitude creeping in with the local bars owners. Prices have increased so as to almost mean your spending money only goes as far as it might in a top alpine resort. He felt any more increases would burst Bulgarias bubble.
We will give Bansko another go in a few years when they get the infrastructure right.

"Too many T bars, Buttons on long runs which should be chairs"
Chris - are you really sure about that as Bansko has only 3 drag lifts on the main part of the mountains (all on the SHORTEST runs), the rest being chairs.
One poma on the beginner run outside the gondola station, one poma and one t-bar sevicing the highest runs (which can also be served via a quad chair)
Some people go on holiday intent on having a good moan when they get home....
there are 2 reds a mid station (6 & 7 )which have a t bar which I would have thought compaired to other resorts I have been too would have been chairs either 2 or 3. At the top 11 & 3 there is a long t bar and button which I think should be a chair. most people hate t bars and most resorts only use them in nursery slopes. im having a moan as I was not impressed if they got their act together bansko could be a good resort. the state of the town is awful its a good job I arrived at night as I ...

well i was in bansko from the 3rd of feb and never once had more than about 10 mins to wait for the gondola,no waiting for the lifts on the mountain either and as for t-bars and drag lifts i thought they were minimal, the mountain it,s self was well good and the off piste soooo much fun ,my only moan would be about the hotel food i stayed in the strazhite good hotel clean and the rooms were spot on but food was crap,i wil def go back next year, rather have good mountain and crap food than the ...

You picked the wrong week to go. The queues for the gondola were terrible all lest week, however today, and the rest of the season the queues were fine.
I do not agree with your comments about too many T-Bars and drags!
