Bulgaria Ski discussion board

Hello Folks,

Love this time of year, getting things booked up for the impending winter. I feel really sorry for the poor folk that get depressed at this time of year - change in weather; less daylight etc - for me it's the start of the 'gonna be out on the snow soon' countdown....

Looking forward to going back to Bansko for the upteenth time in Feb, and this year doing a day trip to Boro for the first time, courtesy of the Bulgariaski favourites Wendy and Steve.

So - what's new in Bansko for this season? I'm guessing nothing major, but always interested to hear about any imporvements to the town or the mountain....

I've asked the question but there doesn't seem to be anything of note.

I guess there is the issue of the lift built without planning permission to resolve (either remove it or retrospective planning...)

In addition there have been huge protests blocking the new motorway to Greece from Sofia pushing for the enhanced ski runs or new ski zone.


Also the comical topic of airport has popped its head up.... when the road is complete it will only be 2 hours MAX from Sofia airport to Bansko you do not need an airport

Nothing on the mountain that we are aware of, short of general maintenance... lot of work in the town, loads of new/replaced paths around gondola and all the way down Pirin street, temporary units have been knocked down and new permanent ones going up (in November ????) new bars (Amigos now have a nightclub, and Oxygen has moved to under the old Pirin bistro opp ice rink) Bound to be a profusion of girlie bars and sex shops (sooooooo classy ) and a couple of new restaurants.... We heard talk of development of the 2nd uplift from the town (gondola) as it has become a municipal scheme, and the old military camp has been earmarked, and clearance of the site has started.. but no more than that... BTI has good info on lots of things, keep reading his threads
