Bansko

Hi all, this is my first time on this site, but not my first time skiing, although I'm still learning. My questions are these if anyone can help:

A group of us will be going to Bansko hopefully as I have an apartment out there, but as it's not finished until late 2007 we are looking for a good hotel, does anyone know who the best operator is for Bansko?

Hi all, this is my first time on this site, but not my first time skiing, although I'm still learning. My questions are these if anyone can help:

A group of us will be going to Bansko hopefully as I have an apartment out there, but as it's not finished until late 2007 we are looking for a good hotel, does anyone know who the best operator is for Bansko?

Also, is Bansko good for all levels, as there will be a beginner (been once before but not a natural), some intermediates, but aslo some who like the black runs?

What is the real transfer time from the airport, as I have heard that the roads are not all that great?

Finally, is the nightlife, food etc any good?

Sorry for all the questions, hope you can help........

Cheers

Bev

re: Bansko

Hi Kj, The reason I don't know too much about the hotels etc is that I bought off plan, and as mentioned earlier the apartment will not be finished until late next year, so I will be using the holiday not just to ski, but to check the progress as the build did not start until May.

Now, if you were to ask me about developers and their agents, solicitors etc I could help, because I did my research on what mattered at the time of purchase, without having to go out at the time.

I hope this ...

re: Bansko

The transfer time will depend on how advanced the new road is. I think it took us about 3 hours on the new road and because they were blasting last time we had a great big detour and it took over 4 hours.

The food away from the hotels is excellent and very cheap. Ask your rep to recommend a restaurant or even better one of the locals. Best hotel is Kempinski Grand Arena but a better located one would be the Strazhite or even the Hotel Bulgaria these are sort of mid way between ski and ...

The food away from the hotels is excellent and very cheap. Ask your rep to recommend a restaurant or even better one of the locals. Best hotel is Kempinski Grand Arena but a better located one would be the Strazhite or even the Hotel Bulgaria these are sort of mid way between ski and play areas. If I was going with a tour operator again I would choose first choice because their rep Emil was first class. A cheaper version would be flight only and to book an apartment of one of the other few hundred Brits with an apartment there that they can't rent out due to over supply. This site does a goood deal at the Mont Blanc apartments which are very well situated for the gondola and the best bar in town Sir Galahads where the food is excellent and the beer very fast flowing.

A tip though if you go there with a crowd is to take your own trays as they are in short supply in the bar and would love to receive some traditional british metal trays as they have decided to start collecting them.

I hope this helps.

re: Bansko

ok then fair enough, however it all does seem a bit rash to spend 25-50k on an apartment without visiting the place, but i suppose we should all do something in life which scaresus, or something like that!!

i reckon the kempinski is the best hotel.

the transfer time i found a bout 2andhalf to 3 hours. i drove this myself. parts of the road have been well upgraded but i found the worst bit to be the sofia ring road.

bansko seems to be aimed at the intermediate level. Enjoy!!

re: Bansko

Thanks Dave and KJ, that info will help me to convince my group to give bansko a go!

Does anyone know how it compares to other European countries? we were at Champoluc last year, and although we were able to ski, a lot of the runs were closed due to lack of snow, and some of the group who are much more experienced (and better skiers), have been to most of the usual places like Andorra, etc

Any info would be great!!

re: Bansko

Oi Oi Bikergirl, you certainly ask a lot of questions. Good for you getting stuck into Bansko property, you have done well already! Bansko is different.
Best to look at Bansko dependant on ski ability and leva in de pocket. Presently great value for money and largely unspoilt. Probably the best value ski holiday you will get but if you really want a mega resort and party Andorra does take some beating. Bansko needs more clubs and groovy bars, have you any dosh left to set one up Question PS ...

If i join you all that will be extra Wink

re: Bansko

Hi Iceman,

Looking at the hotel Perun as the Strazhite seems to be fully booked. I've never been to Andorra but I think most of my group feel they are too old Crying (30's), so long as there are a few good bars and some music, I think they will be happy Very Happy.

I've heard everything is great at the Perun apart from the food, does anyone have any experience of the Perun? (I know another question)

re: Bansko

Forget the hotels as the others say the foods crap so all your really paying for is someone making your bed or carrying your case to your room.

Why not try an appartment to see what they offer call it market reasearch they probally have the same as a hotel swimming pool, steam room, solarium, after all i take it you have bought yours so you can rent it out well why would you want to stay in a hotel and expect others to rent an appartment?
