By far the better resort fot the intermediate to advanced skier, some of the best hotels in all of the Bulgarian ski resorts, not as crowded as the other resorts and the pistes are groomed to a very high standard.
Whilst I agree that Bansko is the better resort by far, I'm not sure I go along with the 'pistes groomed to a very high standard' bit...
Maybe because we were fairly early in the season (Mid Jan) and the heavy snow only started when we were there, but found that the piste bashers were a little sparse, to say the least.
Not that it has put me off, going back end of Jan '06 and cann't wait...
Fair enough. I suppose that I haven't been to bansko for longer than a week at a time so it, perhaps, can't be an accurate statement to make. However, when I was there end of Jan this year, it was really very good and that was the week when the skies opened up and let rip with absolutely loads of snow. So much so that the groomers were on the slopes during the day as well - mmmmm, how nice it was to ski down after the groomers in the freshly groomed snow being the first to make tracks!!
Went in March this year and was very lucky as had exceptionally good snow conditions. Powder snow, blues skies - bl**dy fantastic!!
I loved Bansko itself for being a 'real town' and therefore having real character.
The skiing is generally good I think due to the fact that it has that bit more height than the other resorts.
I stayed in the Perun hotel which was really lovely. I could not fault it - or indeed my stay overall ...
Bansko Bansko Bansko - every time for me!!

Almost as soon as I came back this year I booked for the same time in 2006 - and having been counting down since!
Hope you go and I am sure you will enjoy it. If you want any further info please feel free to email me.
Bansko is lovely. Was there in Feb and had a great time. There were heavy snowfalls when we were there and the bashers did their best but some of the runs did get a bit cut up towards the end of the afternoon.
I stayed in the Pirin which was very good. Others enjoyed the Perun and the Strazhite as well.
Only thing with going early in the season is that the 7km ski road from the top of the gondola down to the bottom may not be open if there is insufficient depth of snow.
Have a great ...

Think you went the week after me Hornster, started snowing on our last day and kept on and on for days and days.... Lucky sod. That's why I am going a week later in Jan. Not that we were short of snow, had some amazing blue sky powder days...
Yeah, I think that I did go the week after you. What a week!! I couldn't have got more lucky if I tried. I'm going slightly earlier this next season and if I get conditions like I did last season...well, I may not be able to leave after the week!!!
If Santa wants to bring me anything for Christmas, let it be an excellent ski season
