I've read a few posts about the bell sellers in Pamps, some moaning about them others not? However, in all the years I have been going to Pamps (since 89) I've got to know most of them and I must say there is not a bad bone in any of them. I've seen these guys help adults and kids when they've fallen over, picking up dropped gloves, ski's and poles etc. Always happy and wanting to talk, yes I know their trying to sell you a bell but what the hell they are just trying to earn a living. ...
I'd rather give one of these guys a few quid for a bell instead of the greedy b------d taxi drivers!
Also, may I add for those of you who are superstitious, the bell sellers are gypsies and they put good luck charms on the bells. They've told me they bring safe skiing and good fortune to all that wear! I have many bells I have bought over the years, but I always wear a bell on my ski jacket, as does my wife and 13 years old son. We are all now advanced skiers and have skied all over the world, and been in some very tricky situations with on occasion heavy falls, but never any injuries?
my bells now go on the christmas tree, I agree they are very helpful and when I was there would let you know where some of the party was when we seperated for a while. a couple of quid for a bell is nothing and once you have bought one they leave you alone, they will even let the others know you have already bought if they start to ask you.
Exactly--just as the likes of Pp and others have said--these guys are a harmless 'pain' and they are great characters...and as Sam and trevor have said they are often helpful.........mind you a good set of earplugs helps block them out..
Sam, What a cracking idea! never thought of putting the bells on our christmas tree! Will do this year, I must have 30 odd bells, .... I'll spread um around,... what a talking point at xmas when family and friends visit. Might put some on the front door aswell?
Here here.......theses guys are great, I hurt my knee on the first day (this year) I was sat out having a coffee and watching the world go by when Charlie Diesel came along to sell me a bell, I COULD'NT EVEN RUN AWAY !!, anyway he chatted to me for ages, he told me that after the snow has gone that he goes bell selling in Greece for the summer, he reckons he sells alot more in the summer around 3000 - 4000 !! by the way I bought two bells as I did last year and as I will next year.
last year Ludvig seemed to be the leader of the bell sellers, he was very vocal and a front man, but this year he was very quiet, I was a bit worried about him, may be it's because I bought my bell from Mr Diesel ?
It was just that Chicago Bulls tied a bell to me while I was queing for my lift pass and then got all funny when I tried to take it off.
I bought one off of Diesel two years ago. As soon as he saw me he called me by my first name and said I wont hassle you 'cos you bought one two years ago.
