Could somebody tell me are you are allowed to take your ski boots on as hand luggage. If not I presume they would have to go in your main clothes bag in the hold as you are only allowed on bag each. We are flying with Thomson I rang them today and was told I could take them on as hand luggage but I'm not sure this is correct.
Even if the tour operator says it's ok to take your boots as hand luggage its up to security at the airport whether they let them through or not.
As Sam says 'sometimes they let you sometimes they dont!! seems to be no hard and fast rule on this' and some airports/security guards allow it some don't
I was planning this - it would be interesting to hear stories if anyone has been stopped taking them on? And what happened to the boots - assume you'd already checked your bag, so did you have to leave them?!
Why on earth would you want to take boots on board as hand luggage? Over 2 hours lugging them around the departure lounge and then trying to stuff them into already full overhead lockers, holding everybody else up who is trying to board the plane.
It is not expensive to book these into the hold and prevent all that chaos.
i do riceles is trying to save on money and might be over on his luggage .most boots weight over 5 kilos .which is 25 percent of your luggage.so it does make sense to take them as hand luggage.where is all the chaos i do it every year, why pay extra money when you dont have to .IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY ,SAY NOTHING
my luggage is always on the limit, if not over (the 60 euros I had to pay in sofia airport 3 years is testament to that)... this year I am taking boots for the first time.
don't mind lugging them - I'll use one of those wheely hand luggage mini case things!
don't mind holding people up - the plane still leaves when it leaves! PP - are you one of these people that gets up out of their seat as soon as the "fasten seatbelt" light goes off?!
Do you take skis as well as boots. If you do and have paid for ski carriage pack some of your clothes around your skis. This lightens your case making room for your boots and also ptotects your skis.

Thomson must have changed their stance then, last year they had to be checked in as hold luggage, whether that be in your suitcase or as a separate bag. I was intending on carrying them on, as I'm usually overweight on luggage as it is, but when I rang Thomson to pay for our holiday, it was part of their "recorded message" thingy. Refusing to pay nearly £25 each for 5kg of extra luggage, I packed light and shoved them in my case! Would rather do this in a hard sided case, than check in my ...

Going to Canada this year, Thomas Cook flight, they are giving 10kg for ski equipment on top of 20kg luggage allowance, I'm being refunded ski carrage I paid but can't pay for this as well as having free 10kg, so 30kg is for skis, boots and clothing, but also have 5kg hand luggage. £9 per kilo to be charged if over this amount. I was told this year even though I was paying for ski carrage the boots weight would come off hold allowance of 20kg but could put 3 bags in hold.
