re: Boots

Going to Canada this year, Thomas Cook flight, they are giving 10kg for ski equipment on top of 20kg luggage allowance, I'm being refunded ski carrage I paid but can't pay for this as well as having free 10kg, so 30kg is for skis, boots and clothing, but also have 5kg hand luggage. £9 per kilo to be charged if over this amount. I was told this year even though I was paying for ski carrage the boots weight would come off hold allowance of 20kg but could put 3 bags in hold.

Ricecles,

We have done both several times, but I prefer to carry my boots as hand luggage. The boot bags are smaller than most of the bags you now see people using on a regular basis for air travel since more charging has been made for hold baggage.
I see a lot of people with what you used to call suitcases getting on flights as hand luggage complete with the old duty free bags as well.
We use easy Jet and have never been refused a boot bag as hand luggage. In any case how would they ...

I dont see PP's point because as I say its now the trend to carry huge hand luggage bags anyway.
Lets face it the boots are heavy and take up an awful lot of room in the hold bags, and what do you really need to carry as handluggage anyway

re: Boots

Boots weight about 7kgs, quite a large part of your luggage allowance. If volume is an issue, just put one boot (stuffed with some heavy things) in your hand luggage.

Well I never thought I was causing chaos buy taking my boots in my 1 piece of allowable on board hand luggage and stowing my bag in the overhead lockers with all the other bags that people take on board? Or is it me? Confused

I take my boots on board and as long as they are in a bag wich conforms to the allowable dimensions which you will find on most airport websites you should have no problem. Although you may find with charter flights they also impose a weight limit of 5kg on hand luggage and as Mat say's boots can be heavy. Mine are 5.5kg.

And as they are also the most expensive thing I take on holiday I would rather keep them with me than chuck them into the hold of no return! Very Happy

re: Boots

I always put my boots in my holdall/case. I have my hand scales and weigh to the max 20kg, anything over goes in my ruck sack. Salopets, gloves socks etc are then wrapped around my skis. I also put my helmet in the case.

Flying to Canada we ( me & dbut) upgrade ( kids have grown etc) luggage allowance goes to 30kg.

re: Boots

Hi All,

Thanks very much for your help, I think after reading all your comments I will try take them as hand luggage , apart from a book and money what else do you really need on the flight. I have a feeling my suitcase will be at the maximum weight and I really don't want any extra costs.
