The Forestry Act is indeed lobbyist, but for the benefit of snowboarders andskiers and all winter sports lovers, according to Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov.

Borisov spoke for the media Thursday from the second largest city of Plovdiv where he officially opened the new sports arena of the Plovdiv University.

He reiterated that the law is lobbying for all those who want to resuscitate Bulgaria’s past glory in the ski sport, and slammed those opposing it as the true lobbyists.

The PM gave as example Austria having 12 000 kilometers of ski tracks in its forests, adding that until now there has been already a savage tree felling in Bulgaria all while winter resorts have been moribund.

“There is no risk in this Act and no reason for alarm. It will trigger an influx of tourists to Bulgaria who will choose it over Germany and Austria. It will also create more jobs and better pay in winter resorts and will attract foreign and local investors,” said he.

Borisov told those protesting against the Act that no rally would hurdle investments in winter tourism in Bulgaria.

When asked why the law was passed after so many debates, delays, and at third reading, the PM explained that he insisted on it because one of the texts had to be changed at the last moment to prevent anyone from being able to illegally acquireski tracks.

On Wednesday, the Bulgarian Parliament passed definitively the controversialForestry Act, allowing construction of ski tracks and lifts without changing the status of the land.

The new forestry law looks like won't last long.
Cos it is a Pandora Box free for all with restrain to finish the forests.the nature and all teritories which have been preserved for 100s years.
This is the precedent of such a loose law.
Since 1930 there has been a ban and heavy restrictions on usage of territories with autranding nature.
I think this new law won't last and this one will bring down the criminal governement with its head Boiko (the Mutra)Borissov.
Just imagine your GB ...

Just imagine your GB Prime Minister to be assossiated and plastered on CIA info declaration with drug dealings and series of dodgy deals before taking sit on top.
With his absolutely stupid language And alack of brain cells (you have to be Bulgarian to understand that) more and more people think: why the hell he was elected to lead our contry.

For the last 3 nights in Sofia there is a huge manifestation on a key xrossroad where young bulgarians and naturre lovers are blocking the roards and this will last until the law is vetoed by the President and removed.Just now there are the first signs that that Government is been forced to talk with the your people because very easily can tumble.
I know as a ski lovers and I want massive expantion of ski areas in all directions.
Yes but NO because this is a temp solution which will lead to destruction. It is serving the interests of the very few like the PM,his gurly burly girlfriend which already like an octopod has the whole of pamporovo. A Bank and now has grabbed and the whole of the Green business. In BG and donations from EU.
On top of the criminals are and:
Emil Todorov (heavy on the hunting and cutting forests) and gospodin Tseko Smile which is trying to monopolize the ski resorts minus Pamporovo.
This individual is up to his neck in dodginess his Bank has been assossiated with things which a lot of partners are distancing away and are hoping will be forgotten this involment with Bandits of a special Fist class standard..
And nore and more.
You see in Bulgaria on the surface there is :montains, cheap booze dirty sea, everything possible atmosphear, corruption on a very well oiled level.
As soon you dip slightly under the surface there is absolute filth.
That's why Pete on some post was correct to say that he does not believe there will be a change of direction.
I think so too.
This will be a heavy burden which will reflect in all areas including the property business in which most of the forumers on here(excl Pete Pamporovo) will depress the marker hugely even further.Beware!

End of the story...

Bulgarian President, Rosen Plevneliev, imposed Saturday a veto on the entire text of the controversial Forestry Act, passed by the Parliament earlier during the week.

The news was announced by his press office, while the motives are now published on the President's official internet site.

In the motives, the President focuses on the need to find the right balance between protecting nature in full all while finding opportunities to boast ski tourism and winter resorts.

He notes that the reaction of Bulgarian citizens, who have staged repeated and large scale protest rallies, shows the lack of consensus about the rules for the use, management, and ownership rights on farming lands and forests.

Plevneliev stresses that the said reaction is well-grounded since there was no dialogue in the attempt to pass the law, but rather evidence of imposing single-handed decisions.

In his motives, Plevneliev writes the following:

"The Constitution is giving me the right to return the law for new debates, and I am using this right to challenge the Act in principle. I believe that the amendments must be examined in full and this veto will offer an opportunity to reach consensus on matters crucial for the nation. I hope the new debates will be held as an active dialogue between the State, the local administrations, the civil society and the business. This is in the foundation of finding a consensus that winter sports and regions must be advanced, but at the same time the environment must be preserved. The Forestry Act as passed does not provide guarantees that the best balance has been achieved."

The controversial amendments, giving a green light to construction of ski tracks and lifts without changing the status of use of the land, triggered large-scale protests, shaking the capital Sofia since Wednesday evening.
