hmmmm - yes maybe racist BUT ....generally it stems from years of issues with the turks... and currently the gypsies...so not sure its fair to jump to conclusions..

Have a great time in the White Magic bar which is on the main street opposite the Samokov hotel.Christo the owner will make sure you enjoy yourselfs.
This year we (me, wife & daughter) are in Bansko that week,but are traveling to Borovets on Thursday the 21st January for a days skiing but also to visit Christo.
If you there then will gladley say hello and have a beer.

Hi Caroline, Been to Boro for the last couple of years. Last year there was a gay couple in our ski class and we all had a fab time.We tended to meet up with people from our ski school in the evening and there certainly weren't any problems. What you have to remember is Boro is a resort so vast majority of people out and about, especially in the evenings are english.

Quite suprised by the "racist"comments. I've been three times now with my pal who is black and we have never experienced any racism, from anyone working there - instructors/bars/friends etc.She's more likely to get it back home! I am going with a different friend in Jan (also black) and wouldn't have recommended it if I thought there would be any hint of this. Hope no-one is put off as it hasn't happened to us yet.Caz
