Boro/lifestyle choices and Mura!?

Hi all,

I am new to your site (started reading reviews yesterday) and see that a lot of you are very knowledgable about Boro and skiing in Bulgaria. This is really really useful for practical ski virgins (and bulgaria virgins) to pick up nuggets of useful info!! Thank you all in advanced for getting me up to speed!!! Surprised)

Surprised)

So me and my new wife are off to Boro 19-26th - firstly we are a gay couple - is that an issue in Bulgaria??? Do we need to be careful??
Secondly we are staying in the Hotel Mura (hoping to upgrade when we get there but that was what we were given in our package deal). Doe anyone know anything about this hotel!? Reviews are very mixed!!! I have a little more faith in your opinions though!!
Thirdly - can any of you recommend a good bar to go to meet friendly people who will make you feel welcome and involve you in things? We are a genuine couple but know the whole 'lesbian' thing isnt everyones cup of tea so tend to keep ourselves to ourselves!! Would love to have a good social time out there too and make some ski friends!!

Finally, any nuggets of gold about where to go in boro would be most welcome!!!
I wait with baited breath for your responses!!
Cheers,
Caroline.

re: Boro/lifestyle choices and Mura!?

Hi Caroline welcome to the forum. Ignore Petra he is just a troll who I will delete in a bit.

Firstly I would say that Eastern Europeans do not tend to be as opend minded and liberal as us western euros! So just keep that in mind.

Boro is very much a party place and I don't think you will have a problem finding somewhere to kick back. Arrie a Aimies always gets good reviews but they have moved locations this season and I forget where they are. Someone will help with that soon I am sure.

Arie and Ami will be in Francos this year I think. It is located near the Rila slopes on the little road between the Rila hotel and the Flora hotel

No-one cares. If you wear your gayness on your sleeve you'll probably cheese people off, like most places.

Now if you're coloured then you'll have problems. Bulgarians are the most horrendous racists - and proud of it sadly.

Well not black and gay so should be ok - we dont have a tendancy to wear our 'gayness' on our sleves so shouldnt cheese too many people off ehh!!
Thanks for your input Mat! Smile

Hi Caroline,
being one half of a gay couple myself i have found it mostly ok in bulgaria as long as you are discreet which you said you are. We have been 3 times once to borovets and twice to pamporovo. we have met some fantastic people who we are still friends with but most have been brits. usually in your ski schools you meet people and you all have skiing in common and learning together so any other diffrences are overlooked. Our last ski instructor annie in borovets was amazin and actually had gay friends.....most of the male bulgarians are less friendly....one of our instructors in pamp couldnt understand why we had same last names....when i explained we were married he couldnt grasp the fact and didnt spk much to us again...but all in all you will love it
ps amie and orrys is brill especially kareoke,,,,we spent couple nights there in borovets.....we off to pamps again in jan 16th
