Hi everyone,
my family and myself arrive there on boxing day for a weeks skiing holiday, never been to bulgaria before but it was an impulse booking as it was cheap £349 half board for a week staying in hotel Ela. what I would like to know do I need to prebook skis, boots and poles or are there plenty of sport shops in the village where I can book these. also what currency do i need to bring? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Who did you book with??? You may have got good deals with them and their ski packs???? You may still be able to get deal with them if you go back and contact them.
But yes there are plenty of shops etc etc.
I will let other people tell you about the bars etc etc as we are in Bansko.
You need Lev's but dont bring with you get here as you get a much beeter rate. Only go to the banks or cash machines though as the kiosks will rip you off.
ATM-s there are 5 in Borovets, so you will be fine. There are also a couple of Banks in Boro as well. As Nightmuffy says - do not change money in the small kiosks and also do not change lev at home as the rate here is always better - today the rate here is around 2.296
In terms of restaurants / bars etc, we have our favourites but so do most people and it all depends on your own personal preference. Our favourites are: Titanic Mamacitas and a new bar called Snow Hut. We also like ...

We also like Golden Horn & Green King, but it all depends on what you are looking for - ambience, family-friendly, special offers, party-atmosphere etc etc??
I would normally suggest booking ski packs in advance (preferential rate) however, due to current snow conditions, you may be better waiting, although if you wait, it will be more expensive on arrival.

Thanks Kas for the info, greatly appreciated. Regarding personal preference for eating out I am looking for all the things you mentioned!!!!!
This will be my first time to bulgaria and I am a little worried as the weather reports dont look great!!! I think we have more snow and colder in the UK - -8c this morning in North Yorkshire.
Well the resort sounds good and I suppose we will just have to make whatever we can of the holiday - hopefully alot of skiing if not some skiing and plenty ...

Dont worry, sure you'll get some skiing in. Snow cannons been on, so Rila slopes and (my fav) Yastrebets will be ok.
I can recommend all the restaurants Kas mentoned but i also really like ' Blue', looks a bit like an opium den from the outside, reall quirky, and not had a bad meal in there for the last 6 visits to Boro! Infact not been in any restaurant that was unsuitable for kids. The Bulgarians love children!

You must try Mamacita's, book for a night when they have a live band on. In past years Katy's Steak House has been good, but its one of those restaurants thats seasonal so you just have to hope its got a decent chief next year. Oh, and its about 2 doors down from Mamma's
Do have to say though, if your in Boro for a week, you must go to Samakov. Some fantastic restaurants, at half the price of Boro, so that would easily cover the 10 min taxi. We've been to a few, but rubbish with names, think 1 was called the House! or something similar, sure i'll get corrected! It was a lovely traditional Bulgarian restaurant.
Unfortunatley not! In a very, very cold Shropshire. -12 all weekend, today, a tropical -7 !
Do have very good friends in Samokov though, who work in Borovets.
We're not out to Boro till March.
After my 1st ever ski holiday, as 40th birthday treat with my best mate, fallen in love with the place! Now husband ski's and kids had best holiday ever for their 1st time skiing, in Boro!
Stayed in quite a few of the hotels. If you want any more info, e mail (pm) me. I'll help with any ...
