Heapster: Youre right, harsh maybe, but true nontheless.
Chris: Yes I did read all of his post, and I acknowledge that he admits to it being his fault.
James: I can only send you my comiserations, many Bulgarians are very helpful but as Kas&Bobby say the operators are in fear of being sacked, just think of it this way, your story may inform others to take care of their passes, but I doubt your rant will change anything with regard to the passes.

You may be able to claim on your insurance, less the usual £50 excess or whatever applies on your policy, but insurance companies often require proof.
I do agree with you about still charging when very little of the infrastructure is open, it is a common problem throughout many resorts.
Damn...I just splashed out on a new rossignol jacket with the Ski pass pocket in the Arm.
We are bound to loose one of the a passes between me and the kids
Name would of been on list of passes purchased by tour firm , a friend lost hers in Bansko last week , called me told them whos name they were paid for in and bingo new pass given to her .
Als o make sure when you buy a slightly cheaper tour operator pass that it also gives you full mountain insurance cover too , some times it doesnt
There's nice of you Don, talk about jumping on the bandwagon of the previous post!
What a terrible analogy too, its hardly the same is it?
If it happened to you I am sure you wouldnt be as flippant and understanding of the powers that be.
The companies I choose to do business with on a regular basis tend to be helpfull and will do whatecer is 'FAIR' to help resolve a situation. This is also the rule we apply in our own business.
In other countries you pay a deposit for the lift pass and get it returned when you return the card. This seems fair. After all you are paying for a weeks ski lift services and not for small card that could be lost or possibly even stolen.

The last time I used the RAC or any other servived requiring a card, I don't think they mentioned that if I lost my card I no longer had the right to it's services. Why didn't they say the same as Borosports? Very simple, they value our repeat business and will do what it takes to maintain a reputation...
You can tell by the number of posts on this forum that Borosports may be getting it wrong on this occasion, that's for them to decide. How many people read this forum? - quite a lot I imagine.
Shaun and Nyck, If you lose your pass you should be covered by your insurance (ours is AA and was fine - check small print in ski cover). The official line from insurers is that you need to get a Police report if you lose your lift pass (not possible in Borovets as we tried and failed).
The best chance is to report it to your rep and they will give you a signed report to send in with your claim which should also state that you discussed the loss woth the Police. You will also need to send ...

However, if you are and independent traveller, you may need to ask your hotel to help with the loss report.
Main thing is to check with your own insurance company before you go as Borosports will not help.
the lift passes are not issued to individuals by name. If a tour company buys in bulk, say for example crystal, then all the passes will come up with the same referance, so on the one hand you have a lost lift pass thats still 'live' and then you require a replacement. As the passes cant be individually cancelled im afraid its tough luckits not unique to BG, we had the same thing happen to us in Pila luckily it was on the last day, but we still had to buy a new one.

If the passes were individually issued then i think that would be possible to cancel them, but then that would require investment in the system!!!!
unfortunate, but a little care goes a long way!
how many times have you seen skiers and boarders flying down the slopes with the lift pass flapping away in the wind??
I'm not sure if an individual card can be cancelled. If it could be and if each barcode is different then the simple answer is to copy (or photocopy) the bar code number on your card then a new card could be issued and the old one cancelled.
My card was attached to a Borosports supplied spring loaded pass holder which was also tucked in my 'lift pass' pocket. I wiped out on the ice of the Rila red and that was the last I saw of it. I was being carfull but sometimes luck plays it's hand ...
