Borovets Lift Pass Warning.

I know this post/rant may attract a few negative responses towards me, but I would just like to warn people in advance so that they do not suffer the same problem - and cost.
We purchased our 6 day lift passes in advance from our tour opperator for £119 each (5 Skiers/boarders in our party of 7, so £595 in total). The lift pass is the type that you have to insert into the reader each time you go through a turnstile - quite a flimsey, thin plastic card, with a hole punched in one end (Not ...

We purchased our 6 day lift passes in advance from our tour opperator for £119 each (5 Skiers/boarders in our party of 7, so £595 in total). The lift pass is the type that you have to insert into the reader each time you go through a turnstile - quite a flimsey, thin plastic card, with a hole punched in one end (Not the contactless electonic type that you just have in your pocket and walk through). After the very first run on the very first day, my girlfriend realised that her lift pass was gone - this despite having been clipped onto the retractable chord in her jacket - designed specifically for this purpose, and tucked inside her jacket. The lift attendant would not allow her back up the chairlift so that she could re-trace her run down in an effort to find it, and despite my best efforts, I could not find it, as it was like looking for a small white thing in snow. We were told that we would have to buy a new one. We contacted our rep, and they said that they were unable to do anything, so we then went to the main ticket office in the gondola station - with our recipt of purchase from the travel company to see if they would replace the lost pass. They blindly refused to replace the pass and we had to pay 286 lev for a new one (about £130).
Whilst it is down to the individual to look after their own pass, sometimes these things happen, and the customer service respose from boro-sports (lift opperators), we felt, was very poor - particularly when they employ this type of lift pass system which makes us all more susceptible to potentially losing the pass. (I feel certain that where we have been before in Austria and France, they are able to cancel the electronic card if it is lost, and re-issue another one). It gave us the impression that they love to take your money off you, but do not care if you encounter a problem. The extra cost we had to incur was even more gauling considering that of the 12 lifts the passes were supposed to cover, only 7 were open, 2 of which only to walkers, leaving us 5 lifts. 3 of those were nursery drags, so in effect, we had the use of 2 Chair lifts for the entire week - Thankyou Boro-sports.
The message is - Don't lose your lift pass!

Know this dont excuse borosports attitude but lost mine exactly the same when I was there on my first time and the response was the same. Did manage to claim it back on my insurance when I got back so you can perhaps try this.

Same thing happened to me. You will have to claim back from insurance.

I'm 50:50 on this.... I feel really sorry for the people that lose them (we actually met james and his girlfriend) BUT it is unfair to blame the lift operators - if they let anyone without a pass (whether, instructor, child or VIP) they will be sacked, so you can understand why they are too scared to even try and help...

In addition, Bobby had someone in his class last year and blamed him for their losing it, even though he suggested they buy a holder from one of the shops for 4lev....he ...

I do think though their should be a system that once you get a pass, there should be a way you can trace it back to the person via the bar code, cancel it and re-issue - in the same way that they do with lost season passes.

I once went to the cash machine and withdrew a nice £20 note, due to my stupidity I managed to loose it.

As it was issued by the bank of england and had a serial number should they have issued a new one???

Of course not, James, sorry to be rude, but look after your own belongings and stop blaming others for your misfortune.

Don, if you read his post again he says he knows it was his own fault but they could have been a little more helpful. Its just bad customer service over there in a lot of ways. Mistakes happen and when they do it would be nice if staff didn't just take the attitude of tuff now give us more money. Plus it would help it the passes were not so crap quality.

I also lost my pass after using the elasticated clip purchased from Borosports failed but am able to claim it back on my insurance so nothing lost for me.

However, technology allows these passes to be traced to the owner and it should be easy to cancel the old one in order to re-issue it. After all they all use a barcoded system so it's not difficult. Maybe a £10 fee to replace would be more acceptable than shelling out for it again.

I watched the Lift Pass Police forcibly remove a lift pass from someone who had been 'accused' of using their friends pass for the afternoon as their friend had only needed it for the morning. Considering that there would only be 1 person using the pass and you can only buy a half day pass in the afternoon, what's the problem with that as no additional resources had been used by the purchaser. This can be confirmed with Krassi G (instructor) as he was watching with me.

Seem's like they can identify who's who when it's their pockets being emptied...

The bottom line is that my overall holiday experience in Bulgaria was very good and I will be going back as I loved the experience. Shame about natural snow although great snow making made up for it. However, the constant grabbing of my money (and invasion of personal space) at every opportunity left me feeling a little less happy about shouting at the rooftops to everyone I know about Bulgaria as it certainly would upset people of a more sensitive nature.
