can anyone give me an unbiased view of Borovets? especially from people who have been there this season... I'm getting a lot of negative feedback!!!!
thinking of going the Bor/Edelweiss late Jan..... yes, it's cheap, but as long as its cheerful, that's cool.... how's the transport from the hotels to the main slopes???
any info muchos appreciated
I've been to Borovets and Pamps and chosen to go back to Borovets twice now.
What I liked about it was that the hotels are near to the slopes (in comparison to the other resorts in Bulgaria). The instructors all speak English and yes it's cheerful. The nightlife is fine - loads of places to go in the evening, lots of bars etc. T

There are minibuses from the hotels to the slopes, or it's about a 10 / 15 minute stroll.
I went in March last year, and I am going again in a few week time. I think for the price, it is very good value for money, the people are genuinly freindly, infact I was amazed at how freindly there were, they do not have much money, and I must be honest and say I thought they would be after my cash all the time, but they weren't. Obviously it is a business to them and they are not muggs, however they are happy that you have chosen their country for your holiday and will do their upmost to ...

Obviously it is a business to them and they are not muggs, however they are happy that you have chosen their country for your holiday and will do their upmost to make it a pleasurable stay (obviously hoping you will go back) The accomodation is a little basic, ideally check ouit reviews onthe hotels before booking one up as the prices are all different with varying grades of quality. However.. generally the hotel food isn't great, again depends where you stay, better hotels = better food, my opinion would be to go B & B and eat out each day and evening as it is extreamily cheap to do so. It depends what you want from a holiday, if you want a cheap, freindly, holiday then give it a go, however if you want it to be a little more "swanky" then maybe look elsewhere. I have only ever been to Borovets, and I love the place so I am going back with some mates this year, however next year I will give Bansko a go, my decision would be based on the fact that a mate is having a house built out there, and the people are so helpful and freindly. Please ask away if you have any particular queries, as there are many 'clued up' people on here.
I went last year, so can say what improvements have been made. Number of slopes are limited. It generally gets icy on the lower slopes (and if ur unlucky rocks and stones peeping through) and there are loads of drag lifts (that aren't new). I thought the ski hired euqipment was quite dated. I wasn't too impressed, but for a cheap weeks skiing it's OK. In future I'd either spend the money and go to France or get a cheap last minute to france/italy/austria.

Most of the hotels are a short walk from the slopes and are basic. I would go B&B as opposed to HB as hotel food seems to be pretty sub-standard.
Personally I wouldn't go back, however lots of people seem to like it. If you've been to any of the larger resorts in France and loved it then def don't go here.
I stayed in the BOR back in Jan last year, Very cheap, Warm, Friendly.
20 Min walk up hill to the lifts, or a 10Lev taxi (last year though)
Food Ok if your not picky, Breakfast good.
Cant keep boards/ski's in your room (to be expected really) but no store room so have to pay to store in resort.
Food out is cheap, Drink is cheap, Bulgarians v v friendly,
Pistes not bashed too often, Only got stranded on a lift once and that was only for 10 mins, thankfully it was the gondola ...

Its so good I am going this Feb, Just staying at a closer hotel (Samakov)
Now to dispel some wyths::::
Don't worry about the gangstas, they dont hangaround the tourists, it would be bad for business!
The 'Ladys of the night' are there, but they don't bother you and keep out of the way.
Its cheap, cheerfull and you'll have a good time
